The project's methodology includes three goals: (1) to gain insight through a sampling survey; (2) to generate a set of aims for balancing content and application; (3) to preach twelve messages from Ephesians that model a balanced approach and to have six of those messages evaluated by church members. Subjects evaluated four sermons using a 13 item Likert scale questionnaire. The hypothesis was that there would be no difference between postsermon test results following traditional sermons and test results following sermons divided into four parts.  The author presented six sermons in each format.  Following the worship services randomly selected persons completed a 20-question multiple-choice test to determine content retention.  T-tests of grand mean scores for tests following each format revealed no significant difference in levels of comprehension.
