The research group was a random sampling of eleven American Baptist churches in the San Diego area.  A questionnaire was given to determine the believer's level of participation in, attitude towards, and understanding of the Lord's Supper.  Those in the top twenty percent and bottom twenty percent were given Pittard's Revised Commitment Test. A high correlation was found between personality congruency and ministerial satisfaction. A program was developed using group process principles with disciplines of spiritual formation as a model for an intentional function of the pastoral care ministry in the church and in equipping persons for the caring ministry.  This project involved adult African American volunteers from a United Church of Christ parish in Washington, DC who consented to participate by being a part of either an experimental (treatment) group or the control group.  Both groups were administered the Inventory of Measurement of Stressors measuring the extent of stress from anxiety, depression, and religion. The fifty fastest growing congregations were examined.  The difference between the attendence-to-baptized ratios for larger and smaller churches was .8 percent: 30.6 percent and 31.4 percent, respectively.  There is no real difference in participation based on size.  Approximately 32 percent of the baptized belong to the 10 percent of churches which are larger.  41 of the 50 fastest growing churches were larger churches with multiple staffs. Research included the field test and the development of a Moral/Spiritual Awareness Inventory which was also used in a limited external sample.  The inventory does seem to measure moral/spiritual development. Results of the study showed significant improvement on some marital satisfaction instruments, while showing no significant improvement on others.  Groups led by lay facilitators were just as likely to show increase in marital satisfaction as were groups led by the researcher and his wife.
