In this project the author presents a contextualized approach to homiletics for the training of Hispanic Protestant seminarians. It is designed to serve as a model for the production of indigenous literature and to help the catechists in the Ubangi Region of Zaire proclaim its message in their local parishes.  Under the direction of a national committee, the sermons of the denomination's greatest preachers are transcribed from tape recordings and produced in a two-hundred page book, complete with homiletical suggestions and sermon outlines. The method for developing the manual was through a committee composed of Puerto Rican pastors, leaders, and missionaries.  The committee developed and produced the manual, with a final workshop to field test it. There are seven steps in the manual which a church growth committee in the local church can follow in the process of developing a healthy church. The committee presented the manual to pastors and leaders of the Puerto Rico Baptist Association in a two-day retreat. By reviewing the literature, offering a critique of Lee's 'The Theology of Change' (a type of Asian theology which uses the same sources as does T'ai-Chi), interviewing T'ai-Chi masters, and providing a pictoral manual of the author doing T'ai-Chi (Y'ang style) as Asian theology, the thesis is realized. Numerous cultural challenges, as well as a deficiency in theological foundations (particularly one that is distinctively Wesleyan-Arminian) warrant such a study. Both a biblical understanding of the church and a clarification of the historical understanding of the role of the pastor comprises the foundation upon which a culturally relevant pastoral theology may be articulated. Therefore, this project proposes: first, to communicate an internally consistent understanding of classical pastoral theology--a Wesleyan-Arminian perspective. Secondly, a strategy is included that is culturally appropriate for Navajo leadership. The result is a course unit which integrates pastoral theology addressing specifically Navajo culture.
