The desired outcome of this programwas to help Haitian pastors better appreciate the art of preaching, be more passionateabout sermon preparation, and be able to identify a process for sermon preparation. Inaddition, on a broader level, the project evaluated whether this program improved theirattitude toward expository sermon preparation and increased their confidence by using astandardized process.A well-balanced sermon is clear, true, relevant, and biblical. These arenecessities for a sermon to accomplish its purpose of changing lives to the glory of God.A link exists between satisfactory sermon preparation and its delivery. Preparation priorto delivery was considered in this project. The value of preparation was highlightedbecause all good preachers should take this characteristic seriously. Preparation is theaction or process of making ready or being made ready for use or consideration.Clarity and effective communication are two important characteristics ofdeveloping a well-balanced and clear sermon. The flow of a sermon depends on bothclarity and effective communication skills. Therefore, these skills were addressed duringthe evaluation of this homiletics training seminar manual.Commitment is necessary for producing well-balanced sermons. Otherwise,congregants will become undernourished because preachers lack the skill to prepare anddeliver expository and well-balanced sermons.A questionnaire and two focus groups were part of the evaluation process forthis project. The pre-survey evaluated those who participated in the training seminar. Itprovided a foundational understanding of their ability to develop expository preachingskills. Dealing with the problem that many Vietnamese preachers face (Chapter I), this project proposes that preachers use proverbs and folk poetry in their preaching. Before trying to put this preaching method into practice, this thesis looks at the theological framework (Chapter II), the homiletical foundation (Chapter III), and a brief study of Vietnamese proverbs and folk poetry (Chapter IV). Chapter V details the ministerial intervention of this project and the interpretation of its outcomes. Throughout the Scriptures and history, there are multiple examples of those who were called to that challenging and lonely task.  This project developed a framework for preaching in the post-disaster context, based on analysis of sermons preached on the Sunday following the 2017 landfall of Hurricane Harvey in Texas and interviews of the pastors who preached those sermons.  This project also includes analysis and synthesis of data from surveys.
