An intensive, two-week period of onsite instruction in Kenya would be followed by three months of student distance work. The redesign also incorporated more of what I had learned in my Doctor of Ministry studies in spiritual formation as well as my growing awareness of contextual factors in Kenya.I argue that spiritual formation or transformation involves changes in the individual’s: (1) thinking (the cognitive domain); (2) feelings, attitudes, and values (the affective domain); and (3) behaviors (the behavioral or psychomotor domain). Thus, the effectiveness of the course redesign was evaluated based on evidence that participation led to increased (1) understanding of spiritual formation, (2) virtue in specific areas of character associated with spiritual formation, and (3) frequency of several specific types of behavior associated with spiritual formation. The limited number of students enrolled in the class necessitated a qualitative approach to evaluation, so a focus group research design was chosen. Questions were designed for group discussion to solicit student feedback on course effectiveness. One discussion was held at the end of the two weeks of onsite instruction, while another was held at the end of the course. Additional information was obtained through self-report survey instruments administered at the beginning and end of the course to measure the students’ (1) understanding of spiritual formation, (2) virtue in specific areas of character associated with spiritual formation, and (3) frequency of several specific types of behavior associated with spiritual formation. The responses to both the focus group questions and the survey instrument questions support the effectiveness of the redesigned course in promoting the spiritual formation of the students cognitively, affectively, and behaviorally."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130591292293120,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:34:02.244Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:01:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:33:18Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"71089564-eb70-4dd6-9ac7-522dd9e0e47c","accessControl_ssim":["9f5602e9-6f05-4f2d-a0a1-5bebcc670a83"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["International Seminary Students As Potential Mission Partners: A Case Study For Trinity School For Ministry, SAMS and Diocese of Kirinyaga, Kenya"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:01:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:26:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f49fbd06-6126-44e2-aeb2-ead3a6a1ffe3"],"hasLease_ssim":["159d02e5-0a49-4a45-960c-229eeef0158e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Susanah J. We use the Pokot and Turkana ethnic groups as a case study. Through social analysis and the theological reflection, that is, the dialogue of the problem with Magisterium of the church about the spirituality of oneness based on our Lord Jesus’ prayer, “Father that may be one…” (John 17:21), it discusses ways of how humanity can eradicate this divisive attitude by learning how to live as “one” with the aid of Christian (Catholic) spirituality. On the basis of this examination, a number of Pastoral recommendations are proposed on ways in which the catechists as lay ministers at the grassroots can be able to contribute to the rigorous efforts of combating the sin of division to the unity in diversity which we focus on and term as the spirituality of oneness. Thus adding a new dimension of how humanity is to live as one as it captures the daily dynamics, transformative quality of spirituality as a lived experience linked to our relationship to the Ultimate, with others and society and the cosmic world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b51273d2-7ff5-4ecb-af24-64508c2367ad"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129317064835072,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:13:47.047Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:49:07Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:54:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0243bdcf-1217-41d1-9edc-672beb776c33","accessControl_ssim":["b764600f-92b5-4706-9331-32542ee32e06"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Transforming members into witnesses through trained church leaders"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:49:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:10:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bacb886e-de28-40a5-87da-ebe41edcf8bc"],"hasLease_ssim":["9dee8681-f648-47fc-84e4-7af3c448788a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Chang Hyon Pak"],"year_tesim":["2017"],"location_tesim":["Kenya"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The study was conducted among the Maasai community of Kenya and Tanzania. The problem for the study concerned the fact that many Maasai's did not abandon some retrogressive elements of their culture that were in conflict with the Christian faith, even after embracing Christianity. The study employed Paul's framework in his letter to the Galatians where it is shown that Paul was not content to make converts but to transform Christians to be witnesses. The objective for this study was to use cultural structures of church leadership in order to mediate the Christian faith through the leaders. Ultimately, this study was aimed at showing how members can be transformed into witnesses through leadership. Qualitative data for this study was gathered from interviews through nonprobability sampling from the Maasai Methodist mission fields in Longido Tanzania. Data was analyzed through philosophical analysis and conclusions were drawn from the given samples. The findings and conclusions of this study point to the fact that converts to Christianity should become witnesses in their communities. It is hoped that the recommendations that have been brought out in this study will be of utmost importance to future missionaries in Africa."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715915565105152,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:54:05.502Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:44:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:41:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"839d4d37-e58d-4679-8c58-f66f150e8709","accessControl_ssim":["f7534678-21c4-455e-9766-1ba0e41a63a9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Cross-cultural theological education in East Africa: perceptions of the learning experience"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:44:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:01:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["26bb9189-33d1-475a-8bf8-c2f3fa5567b7"],"hasLease_ssim":["979cd498-f5b9-4cce-8d40-e86c9adfaa1a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Donald C Guthrie"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"location_tesim":["Kenya"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James E Book"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["East Africa School of Theology (Nairobi, Kenya)","Religious education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study was to discover the preferred learning styles of East African students studying with Global University on the East Africa School of Theology campus in Nairobi, Kenya.
