Qualitative research in grounded theory was the method used to gather, analyze and interpret the data.  The weft QDA software was used to organize and analyze the data.  Some of the issues identified: the family, single parents, fatherlessness and the church. This project examined two coaching tools, Gallup StrengthsFinder and World Harvest Mission Gospel-Centered Life, to determine if using them in combination improved team effectiveness to a greater degree than using either tool alone.  Seventeen participants on two core leadership teams from church plants in urban Philadelphia were trained with both tools.  The qualitative research was conducted by self-evaluation surveys that gathered  information before and after each phase of training. Philadelphia is the context of study and the work of United Methodist Metro Ministries, Inc, the urban agency of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, is the example of an agency that developed and implemented such a process.  Findings include: new self-understanding and praxis of urban congregations based on socio-theological reflection; greater satisfaction in the work of ministry in the city; new appreciation for social context and biblical study.  This process necessitates critical reflection upon the urban context and disciplined biblical and theological study as indivisible for effective praxis in the city.
