Through a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative insights, the study examines the historical and contemporary perspectives on female authority in Islam. It highlights the significant contributions of Muslim women leaders from the time of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to the present day, emphasizing their roles in commerce, political consultation, warfare, and education. The research identifies key factors that influence the recognition and actualization of women's leadership potential, including cultural norms, organizational structures, and interpretations of Islamic jurisprudence. By documenting the experiences of Muslim women leaders and proposing recommendations for fostering inclusive environments, this study aims to advance equity and inclusivity within Islamic organizations, ensuring that leadership reflects the principles of justice and mutual respect central to Islamic teachings."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/677318ca-ccbf-4c90-b0ac-18c6e8b956d1?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["677318ca-ccbf-4c90-b0ac-18c6e8b956d1"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master's Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["a73e1c05-49cd-4a4b-93e7-8fd66694bdf5"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["677318ca-ccbf-4c90-b0ac-18c6e8b956d1"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"read_access_person_ssim":["jacquelyn.crutchley@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1836640281179455488,"timestamp":"2025-07-03T15:31:04.637Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-09-13T19:55:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T18:43:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4f50cca9-5c1c-4b6c-8184-480899cedd4b","accessControl_ssim":["951ff029-6621-4166-90ab-e2cf58e3eed9"],"depositor_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"title_tesim":["Eco-jihad : roots, principles, and precedents of an Islamic eco-ethics"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-09-13T19:55:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-03T18:43:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a26f15b1-7933-420e-94cf-7d0fa7d779d5"],"hasLease_ssim":["de1c22bc-21a3-44ae-b7e1-bfc49f120bf8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Islamic Studies"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"department_tesim":["Bayan Islamic Graduate School"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Majeed, Kori"],"subject_tesim":["Spain--Andalusia","Environmental protection--Religious aspects--Islam","Environmental ethics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This paper explores nature as a major theme of the Quran and principles that explain the what, why and how of Islamically-based environmental ethics (eco-Islam) and action (eco-jihad). However, unfortunately, there is a lack of academic work comparing Nursī with the previous Muslim scholars and analyzing and comparing his argumentations. Therefore, this thesis focuses on Nursī's approach to proving the resurrection and the afterlife comparing him with Fakhr al-Dīn al-Raz̄i since Razī represented the sum of all previous Muslim argumentations in the subject. The result showed the Nursī combined his Sufi background employing the names and attributes of God to show the necessity of physical resurrection in a manner distinct from previous scholars. First, he established a universe in which the reader develops a personal relationship with the Creator through the names and attributes of Him. Then he argues why the disposition and ability of God require resurrection and afterlife for His servants. This approach is unique to Nursī, and this thesis aims to prove this claim."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"identifier_tesim":["1372665340"],"bibliographic_citation_tesim":["Demirkan, Ensar. “Sa'id Nursī on Resurrection and Afterlife in Comparison with Fakhr Al-Dīn Al-Rāzī.” MA Thesis, Chicago Theological Seminary, 2022"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/system/default_work_images/1/original/etd-icon_62058690__1_.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master's Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["a73e1c05-49cd-4a4b-93e7-8fd66694bdf5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"read_access_person_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1836652435337117696,"timestamp":"2025-07-03T18:44:15.746Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-09-01T22:13:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2023-09-26T02:08:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fc1b81f9-1fb4-4e4e-8747-215820aa0d59","accessControl_ssim":["881441da-a6eb-4592-abee-9be08a147070"],"depositor_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"title_tesim":["A critique of the Christian theology of adoption: what does it mean to expand familial love?"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-09-01T22:13:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2023-09-26T02:08:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7424f7c9-9359-476c-b0ce-9eddeb71dca1"],"hasLease_ssim":["2498047f-891c-4330-bba6-31a69271e1d2"],"institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Religious Studies"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Hudler, Haley "],"subject_tesim":["Adoption (Theology)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"description_tesim":["MA Thesis"],"abstract_tesim":["This research interrogated how Protestant Christians in the post-World War II period up to today, interpreted the adoption metaphor in application to infant, non-relative, closed, domestic, and international adoptions in the United States. Analysis of the Pauline adoption metaphor found in Romans, Galatians, and Ephesians was juxtaposed to the created theology of Harry and Bertha Holt, founders of Holt International. This research drew attention to the problematic ways Christian adoption has promoted colonization, patriarchy, classism, and multiple levels of oppression. The solution to this harmful understanding of adoption is to interpret Christian adoption through an alternative theology of open adoption. The application of Christian adoption to closed adoption is taken out of context and not applicable. Prospective parents who are inspired to adopt from a Christian context must understand the purpose is to expand family support for a child. In this way, the act of adopting is to grow the capacity for familial love to include both adoptive and birth families in the lives of adopted children. What an alternative theology of open adoption means for Christianity is embodying the practice of religious pluralism. This theology is more appropriate for our times because it reduces the dangers of dualism in understanding family and religious belonging.\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"identifier_tesim":["1372302294"],"bibliographic_citation_tesim":["Hudler, Haley. \"A Critique of the Christian Theology of Adoption: What Does It Mean to Expand Familial Love?\" MA thesis, Chicago Theological Seminary, 2022."],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/system/default_work_images/1/original/etd-icon_62058690__1_.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master's Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["a73e1c05-49cd-4a4b-93e7-8fd66694bdf5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"read_access_person_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1778064124815605760,"timestamp":"2023-09-26T02:08:08.759Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Thesis","hits":4,"label":"Thesis"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Crutchley, Jacquelyn","hits":1,"label":"Crutchley, Jacquelyn"},{"value":"Demirkan, Ensar","hits":1,"label":"Demirkan, Ensar"},{"value":"Hudler, Haley ","hits":1,"label":"Hudler, Haley "},{"value":"Majeed, Kori","hits":1,"label":"Majeed, Kori"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[{"value":"American Muslim","hits":1,"label":"American Muslim"},{"value":"American Muslim Women","hits":1,"label":"American Muslim Women"},{"value":"Female Authority","hits":1,"label":"Female Authority"},{"value":"Female Authority in Islam","hits":1,"label":"Female Authority in Islam"},{"value":"Islamic Authority","hits":1,"label":"Islamic Authority"},{"value":"Muslim Women","hits":1,"label":"Muslim Women"}],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Adoption (Theology)","hits":1,"label":"Adoption (Theology)"},{"value":"Environmental ethics","hits":1,"label":"Environmental ethics"},{"value":"Environmental protection--Religious aspects--Islam","hits":1,"label":"Environmental protection--Religious aspects--Islam"},{"value":"God (Islam)--Attributes","hits":1,"label":"God (Islam)--Attributes"},{"value":"Islam","hits":1,"label":"Islam"},{"value":"Nursi, Said, 1873-1960","hits":1,"label":"Nursi, Said, 1873-1960"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":4,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":4,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"2022","hits":3,"label":"2022"},{"value":"2025","hits":1,"label":"2025"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[{"value":"PDF","hits":1,"label":"PDF"}],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"Master's Theses","hits":4,"label":"Master's Theses"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Master of Arts","hits":4,"label":"Master of Arts"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[{"value":"Islamic Studies","hits":2,"label":"Islamic Studies"},{"value":"Islamic Leadership","hits":1,"label":"Islamic Leadership"},{"value":"Religious Studies","hits":1,"label":"Religious Studies"}],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Chicago Theological Seminary","hits":4,"label":"Chicago Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[{"value":"Bayan Islamic Graduate School","hits":3,"label":"Bayan Islamic Graduate School"}],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Chicago Theological Seminary","hits":4,"label":"Chicago Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":4,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
