Society has mis-judged them and abandoned them in the system.  Leaders in the church, school, local government and even parents have often failed to nurture seeds once rooted, and now disconnected from the soul.  Their hearts are saddened, spirit is broken, due to rejection and abandonment. The research focused on studying adolescent development, leadership, learning styles, and curricular design through analyzing four curricula currently in use with adolescents.  The research was evaluative in nature.  Data were collected through sixty-minute phone interviews and by developing an evaluative grid from literary research.  The grid provided a consistent process to analyze the curricula.  Leadership with adolescents is either strongly emphasized or ignored in the evangelical Christian church.  Teens are seen as a resource and should be placed in positions to make an impact today, according to the collected data.  A strong philosophical base of adolescent development theory, leadership theory, or learning styles theory did not exist in the models. All the approaches incorporated theoretical pieces within the areas of study. There was a lack of consideration for teen maturation needs when presenting the information.  Social support was not integrated into the fiber of the programs. First determining the self-esteem of the participants by administering the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory (CSEI), the project then works with the youth in eight sessions to address their self-esteem as affected by their families, teachers, peers, and themselves. Signs of shame and dishonor manifested during the study are disguised by feelings of worthlessness, failure, embarrassment, and inferiority. This project is an attempt for the church to utilize its theology of hope, its use of mystery and ritual and its sense of identity and other resources to prevent teenage depression and despair. This group of counselees is the most common group in inpatient psychotherapy.  They manifest behavioral and anti-social problems as well as serious academic and family difficulties.  The author provides a theory of the adolescent's psychic life.  He proposes a promising alternative treatment that is multi-faceted.  It insists that adolescents grow into adults by becoming responsible for their own behavior.
