Ohio)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project is to research racial reconciliation in the Southern Baptist Convention and develop a workshop for the parishioners of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Cleveland, Ohio. In 2011, Liberty Hill Baptist Church took a step toward racial reconciliation by joining the Southern Baptist Convention. Parishioners, some of whom migrated from the South, expressed concerns about joining 'that racist organization.' However, despite their concerns, Liberty Hill voted overwhelmingly to join the SBC. Buried in the pile of 1,145 resolutions from 1845 to 2017 are resolutions specifically impacting African Americans. The main goals are 1) strategy creation, 2) team development, 3) online capacity and content assessment, 4) test the social media effectiveness both internally and externally outreach, and finally 6) raise the congregation's visibility and use of social media and technology. The project concludes that in light of the shifting technological and cultural landscape the church can benefit from emerging technology. The 127 participants were given a 5-point Likert scale with 12 questions to discover why, and a section to evaluate the study. The data revealed that the participants disagreed with the suggestions that were offered on the 5-point Likert scale as to why the Black churches were not involved in social activism. The data confirmed that people do not attend because preachers appear to be seeking emotional responses during preaching, members are not friendly and welcoming, leadership caters to a particular group, and the extreme concern with collecting money. Most of the study focuses twelve such pastors in Alabama with advanced degrees from various theological seminaries. In the course of the author reading literature, conducting interviews, writing the dissertation and reflecting upon his own experiences, it was clear to him that seminaries, local churches and conventions must play a part in responding to the needs of these pastors. However, in many rural communities, the leadership, both ordained and lay, are not sufficiently theologically grounded and educationally cultivated to meet the challenges of leadership. The author created this ministry tool to affirm, inform, empower and bridge the gap between a pastor and ministry leaders, particularly the deacon's ministry, in a rural Black Baptist church. The data that were collected and analyzed revealed their needs in this church. Noteworthy findings revealed the adult women enjoyed attending and serving the church, women's retreats, learning about women's black history, financial help, and physical conditioning. Some respondents were not sure if they enjoyed attending mid-week services, Sunday school, women's conferences, fellowships, workshops for married couples or adopting a women's shelter. The project director designed this project utilizing the Strategy Planning model. The project began with the director researching a variety of disciple making methodologies. Secondly, the project director enlisted a select group of pastors, churches and convention staff, and associational workers to serve on a strategic task force. Thirdly, the director and task force developed a strategy for disciple making in an African American community church plant. A group of pastors and churches assigned to the project director participated in the project by teaching some disciple making materials to their congregations.
