The study focuses on African congregations in the ELCA using the Oromo Evangelical Church as a case study. Oromo migration and the Missio Dei, Ethiopia's language policy and its impacts on Oromo language, conquest and incorporation of Oromo into the Ethiopian empire, and history of the Oromo Bible translation and persecution of evangelical Christians in Ethiopia were researched. Evangelism is a part of mission; worship an action of God's people.  Evangelism is a personal and communal activity of a worshipping community.  The paper recounts worship as it was honed in the Black religious American experience. African American Lutheran struggles with Eurocentric worship are explored.  Five worship models used in African American Lutheran circles are proposed.
