There seem to be two extremes in answer to this question. The liberal side seems to blame the system. The reason many black Americans fall behind other groups is blamed on institutional racism or something ingrained in the American system that curtail flourishing for Americans of African descent. On the other hand, most on the moderate and conservative sides do not deny the black experience through slavery and Jim Crow. Yet they emphasized that Americans of African descent can do better by practicing the same tried and true methods that made other Americans successful. The dissertation will take the view that the major source of the problems in the black community has its origin in the demise of the traditional family. Statistics, written testimony, historical fact, common sense, and a biblical Christian worldview will be used to help pinpoint and offer solutions to the problem. The family that is founded on one mother and one father who are married to each other and who respond to one another as well as their children, in the way the Bible prescribes, is the only normal family. Anything else can only be second best. When children are socialized in a loving and disciplined environment, they have the greatest probability to flourish as human beings."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131811037839360,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:53:25.485Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:34:16Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:03:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"46b26b9f-5b09-413a-88c9-bac5852f8e89","accessControl_ssim":["567581ed-60cf-4b55-959f-5e733c69a8d8"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Separate is never equal: a study reviewing the Briggs v. Ninety-eight percent of the students are African-American. In present day Summerton, separate still exists and equality remains just out of grasp. Given partnerships between churches and communities seldom exist; Ivanhoe implemented a teaching/learning context in partnership with other institutions to equip youth to deal with social, economic and spiritual challenges threatening their well-being and productivity. A qualitative approach using participatory observation, surveys, journaling, and spiritual formation lessons and activities was utilized. The hypothesis states that spiritually empowered youth internalize God's love and develop spiritual discipline and self-control needed to transcend and transform racial, social, and economic constraints. Findings suggest spirituality empowers youth to excel."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129890845622272,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:22:54.247Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:48:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:20:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"effba6dc-ed15-449f-bb7a-f18f44dd692a","accessControl_ssim":["01b12020-0dae-40eb-a156-47f222207501"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Witnessing to the reality of Jesus: moving the church from the walls to the community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:48:03Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:59:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7edd842c-0f79-4221-8132-abe0b66db3e2"],"hasLease_ssim":["28651fd5-bdf0-4399-b9a6-559a0083912e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Kathy L Dawson"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"location_tesim":["Florida","Florida--Miami"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Devin D Brown"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Economic conditions","Church and social problems","Social conditions","African Americans--Economic conditions","African Americans--Social conditions","City missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Liberty City is a predominantly low- to low-middle-income African-American community in Miami, Florida suffering from many social and economic ills.
