Special attention is given to a research-action project of the Alban Institute.  Insights of three area ministers (denominational personnel who serve as resources to local churches and pastors) concerning matters of long tenure are then summarized from interviews.  The main body of the work involves case studies of five pastors whose tenure in a given location has been from 7 to 14 years.  Written materials provided by each are examined and compared, after which highlights from personal interviews are reported. Library research on the Filipinos in Hawaii, exegetical works on selected biblical passages, and community and pastors' surveys were done.  The evaluation of the survey of Kalihi Baptist Church indicated that the English-speaking members preferred an integrated Filipino congregation.  The non-English speaking Filipinos preferred to have their own services. Pastors and staff of the Hawaii Baptist Convention want to see homogenous Filipino congregations.
