As a child grows in the society, the child learns the culture’s general assumptions about family relations, relations between men and women, attitude towards life and death. A child learns these assumptions from parents and caregivers. There are other cultural expressions including table manners and the distribution of chores. Of all these inherited conceptions, language is the most symbolic of them all. Language as an essential part of preaching is the subject of this thesis. The hypothesis is that Fidei Donum Priests can be effective Preachers by attending to the linguistic idioms, imageries, phrases, and sentence construction of the local congregation. The language of preaching is the concrete language of everyday life. Preaching language is the language that the children hear and understand and when they do not understand, their mothers offer a simpler understanding of the language with stories and imageries. Stories and imageries create and leave impressions on the emotional life of the people. When Priests use stories, imageries, and metaphors in preaching, listeners identify God’s presence in their midst. And that is why concrete imageries are the best tools for preaching. But the use of concrete language in preaching does not come easy to the missionaries. Through a series of interviews and surveys, Presbyterian pastors in western Pennsylvania were studied to consider their attitudes toward and use of the biblical languages in preparing to preach. A study of scripture is undertaken to ascertain scripture's view of scripture and the relevance of this for the use of the biblical languages in preaching. The Reformation is considered as the most relevant period in theological history. The author researched the exegetical clues within Hebrews to determine whether or not these influence the communication in preaching. He examined the author of Hebrews' words of encouragement compared to words of warning. He concluded that there is a philosophy of preaching within Hebrews that can be modeled by contemporary preachers. This writer theorized that a preacher's homiletical skills would increase when exposed to an understanding of the various biblical genres.  The theory evolved into the development of a survey-style seminary course taught at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.  The data collected from the test instruments administered during the course supported this writer's theory.  Chapter 1 of this thesis-project presented the problem and its setting. The problem was the need for a survey-style preaching course from the perspective of the biblical genres, and the setting for the thesis-project was the Leveall College of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary located in Decatur, Georgia.  Chapters 2 and 3 detailed the theological framework for this thesis-project.  The framework included an understanding of expository preaching, holistic interpretation of the Scriptures, and the incorporation of the biblical genres into the art of expository preaching.  Chapter 4 presented the literature review for this thesis project.  Sidney Greidanus's The Modern Preacher and the Ancient Text served as the skeletal foundation for this thesis-project.  Chapter 5 detailed the implementation of the project, the teaching of a new survey-style preaching course.
