Two primary, broad, necessary characteristics of professionals are spiritual maturity and cultural awareness. Two means of developing these are experience and discipleship. Experience is needed in their professional field, cross-cultural interaction, and Christian ministry; discipleship is needed to integrate good theology into one’s life, work and ministry. This project proposes a model for multi-faceted experience and integrated discipleship that moves professionals from self-awareness to Christ-like wholeness, and from cultural awareness to wise missiology. It summarizes roles for the Assembly, Agency, and Academy in general, and proposes specific action for Heritage Theological Seminary, in Cambridge, Ontario."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125419152375808,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:11:49.708Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:09:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:49:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7787fffd-c22b-482b-adcd-7b076605aa3c","accessControl_ssim":["79c5132d-4f04-4c2e-ab96-6b37bf7be21f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Hospitality Of A New Wave For Hong Kong Diaspora By The Hong Kong Background Cantonese-Speaking Churches In Canada As A Journey Of Discipleship"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:09:51Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:38:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2b14a321-0e1e-4bea-b37e-399e50028447"],"hasLease_ssim":["61f1d36f-cc69-45e4-ad76-a9704f798810"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Pastoral ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Chi Wai Wu D.Min.","Jonathan Y. The theology of exile was also engaged to shed insight on hospitality. The driving question for this project was: How could the Hong Kong background Cantonese-speaking churches in Canada embrace a new wave of Hong Kong diaspora through practicing hospitality as a journey of discipleship? This project interviewed 21 Hong Kong background Cantonese-speaking churches in Canada to draw lessons from their experience in embracing the Hong Kong wave during the period between September 2021 and May 2022. Based on the biblical exposition, a framework of “B.O.N.J.O.U.R.” (i.e., boundary, orienting our hearts and minds, nurturing a lifelong habit, juncture, open, understanding, and reframing) in conjunction with the elements of the discipleship base of the writer’s church (i.e., Word, prayer, worship and stewardship of time, finance and talents) was proposed as a criteria for evaluating our mindset and practices in embracing the migration wave. Recommendations in another framework of “P.L.O.W.” (i.e., preparation, leadership, optics and willingness) were humbly offered at the end to different churches of different sizes and different paces in welcoming the migrants from Hong Kong."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715655779352576,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:49:57.751Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:00:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:50:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"18a3eefb-36ac-4bd5-8ca9-4f37d00cca47","accessControl_ssim":["1e095c9e-e9ef-45b6-95d6-6b0737b80f7c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Cultivating A Culture Of Orphan Care At Longview Point Baptist Church In Hernando, Mississippi"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:00:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:51:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["31acfec0-de12-4f5d-a9a0-4224135c0d96"],"hasLease_ssim":["c7d93664-5ec6-4f5a-9bf4-9734dccb8aa7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Deron J Biles Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Mississippi"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Chapter 2 delves into the project’s specifics at Longview Point Baptist Church in Hernando, Mississippi. Chapter 3 details the rest of the sessions and how the project coordinator challenged the participants to further action. The situation was analyzed through biblical research, historical review, and theoretical study. The analysis revealed that the Christians of NLGC Keller were still living in a state of spiritual war. Then, the project was designed to focus on solving this issue through ongoing heart transformation by the love of God. The project is called “heart transformation project.” Only God’s love can transform the heart. Therefore, Christians’ hearts must be put into the circulation of God’s love. The argument is whether God’s love can continue transforming Christians’ hearts. If Christians’ hearts can continue transforming through receiving and giving God’s love in the love-circulating system, the church will certainly grow up sustainably. Focusing on heart transformation, the project can be utilized as a discipleship training program. Through the process of transformation by God’s love, Christians are expected to grow up quickly to become acceptable to God after His own heart."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132577337180160,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:05:36.285Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:36:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:55:39Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"472080fc-9aeb-4966-b432-e56c1ff77a1c","accessControl_ssim":["d473b0f0-3303-441a-83fc-0922709e1a35"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping Leaders at Hope Fellowship Church in Frisco, Texas, to Assess and Facilitate Ongoing Spiritual Development"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:36:11Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:12:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f4d1aa02-8908-4a0e-abbb-0fc795b963e4"],"hasLease_ssim":["77dc89b8-d3b1-47a4-9be5-47ea0c5ff993"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Christian Formation and Discipleship"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Coleman Ford Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. It is not appropriate to label Southern Baptists as Calvinists, or Arminians, as historically they fall somewhere between the two persuasions. While there is significant agreement on numerous facets, Baptists vary on elements of soteriology, and thus training lay people to understand these differences will cause less confusion and mitigate unnecessary division. This is particularly true when believers try to live the Christian life without an awareness of what the gospel says about their union with Christ. In this condition they become vulnerable to two grave spiritual dangers legalism and licentiousness. The Indicative / Imperative construct can bring clarity and help against the debilitating effects of these two detrimental spiritual conditions. This construct is found especially in the Pauline epistles (Eph. 4:1ff.; Rom. 12:1ff.) as the Apostle boldly declares to the recipients who they are in Christ (indicative) and then how they must live anew on the basis of this new spiritual identity (imperative). This project utilized qualitative research techniques to explore the use of the Indicative / Imperative Construct as a pastoral tool for spiritual formation. The researcher preached a series of seven sermons highlighting the Indicative / Imperative construct in the writings of Paul. A focus group of twelve participants gathered weekly following each sermon. A pre and post focus group survey was utilized along with weekly homework assignments. A group interview was conducted during the eighth and final focus group gathering. Four weeks after the final focus group meeting, each participant took part in an individual interview. A trained participant observer recorded field notes throughout each focus group session. These notes, in combination with the researcher’s observational notes, provided a multilayered data set for evaluation as the project progressed. After evaluating the data results, trends towards spiritual growth in connection with a deepening grasp of the Indicative / Imperative Construct became apparent in the lives of several project participants. There were other trends in the data that were not overwhelmingly conclusive however, the researcher learned several lessons from this project that will impact his ministry for years to come."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791124917102575616,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:03:50.916Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:25:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:11:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c974365d-46d8-4733-b7d8-1ff55aa5ce4f","accessControl_ssim":["24c6e831-0022-436f-a271-5de446262726"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping Rural Pastors in Zimbabwe to Practice John Owen's Discipline of Mortifying Sin in Their Daily Life"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:25:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:55:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["93df2997-3594-4c89-8a7c-0e3676678f84"],"hasLease_ssim":["77ae2bd2-0103-4e9b-a7c4-920b4d779285"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Pastoral Theology"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jeff Bingham DR. These pastors serve the Lord in regions that limit their access to training and biblical resources. Through the implementation of Owen’s, The Mortification of Sin in the Life of the Believer, these men learned the biblical discipline of daily fighting against the tendency of catering to their residual sin. After they thoroughly read Owen’s work, and signed an agreement to participate letter, an assessment of their spiritual health was made and evaluated through the completion of a spiritual health survey. This was followed by attending a 32-hour seminar, where each man received a conference book. The material had been abridged and edited into a ten-session format. The course was taught at the Peniel Training Center in Hope Fountain, Zimbabwe. At the conclusion of the course, each pastor was asked to summarize this experience in an essay, and each received a certificate of completion."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132934211633152,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:11:16.627Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:10:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:41:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7ce22f37-a77f-4fb5-86ba-b8c216344246","accessControl_ssim":["b79f2f89-6689-4c69-a6ff-4db6bc3cbae7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Romans 13:1-7: An Historical and Exegetical Analysis"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:10:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:49:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["120e2ca1-a4a6-4d32-b9f0-9a1a3c7a877d"],"hasLease_ssim":["b296ce5d-ea72-4431-8bee-60b45f67113d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Exegetical Theology"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David Chapman Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2018"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Schmalhofer, Travis A."],"keyword_tesim":["Church and community","Church (Ecclesiology)"],"subject_tesim":["Bible. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the history of interpretation on Romans 13:1-7, and then to provide a fresh interpretation of it, with interaction from modern commentaries. Some key questions about Romans 13:1-7 have arisen over the centuries: (1) To whom does Paul refer when he talks about the “governing authorities”?; (2) Whose judgment does Paul reference in vs. 2? Is God the judge in view, or is it the governing authorities?; (3) Does Paul condone capital punishment in vs. 4, where he references the sword?; (4) Does “wrath” refer to eternal condemnation, or temporal punishment in vs. 4?; (5) What does Paul mean by referring to the governing authorities as “God’s servants” and “ministers of God”? Is he putting them on a par with ecclesiastical authorities?; (6) Is this passage supposed to be understood as a universal rule for the Church throughout history, or was it intended to be guidance for the Christians in Rome around A.D. 55? After a concise introduction, there is a detailed annotated translation of Romans 13:1-7, which provides insight into the translational and interpretive decisions made by the author. After a general introduction in Chapter 1, then Chapters 2-4 present an analysis of some key figures in the history of interpretation from the Early Church to the Reformation. Specifically, we examine commentaries and sermons written by Origen, John Chrysostom, Augustine, Peter Abelard, William of St. Thierry, Nicholas of Lyra, Martin Luther, and John Calvin. Chapter 5 is devoted to a new examination of Romans 13:1-7 by the present author and modern commentaries are consulted throughout to provide an accurate interpretation of the passage."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["http://covenantlibrary.org/etd/2018/Schmalhofer_Travis_MAET_2018.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131051511250944,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:41:21.144Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:04:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:06:59Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"751e4f6e-7935-4d40-90e1-d42eaf5fe98d","accessControl_ssim":["1803f110-6fd7-4021-a194-7511d3470f80"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An Analysis of the Cultural and Leadership Differences Among Leaders in the Chinese Immigrant Church in America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:04:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:34:08Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6d15d9e0-b550-42ad-a25e-b65b80c4d238"],"hasLease_ssim":["c71aa05f-6de8-4caf-a7b6-fb3cf40dc390"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Leadership and Management"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Joy (Kooi-Chin) Tong Ph.D.","William Donahue Ph.D.","Peter Cha Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Chinese immigrant churches in America, like most organizations, are facing many challenges. One of the biggest challenges is how to deal with cultural differences inside the church. The differences are not only between ABC (American Born Chinese) and OBC (Overseas Born Chinese), but also among OBC who come from different parts of China and all over the world. Chinese immigrant churches losing young people and failing to reach ABC have been known problems for more than the past twenty-five years. Most books and papers use old Chinese culture to describe OBC culture and American culture to describe ABC culture to analyze the problems and try to help people to know themselves and to know each other. This approach has helped some of the churches, but it has also caused some confusion and issues when people use this to stereotype the OBC and ABC leaders in the church. This project used a survey to investigate the cultural and leadership differences among leaders in the Chinese immigrant church in America. The result clearly shows that it is a mistake and will cause confusion when we stereotype ABC is American culture and OBC is Chinese culture. It is mixed up. Each individual have their own even in their same age group. The author sincerely hopes that through Biblical truth and information from social science, the suggestions in this project report can contribute to finding successful ways to lead across cultures in the Chinese immigrant church in America and help develop Christian leaders capable of leading across cultures in the church and in the world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716727836114944,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:07:00.143Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":19,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
