What may appear to some as a crisis of ambiguity about the nature and place of the Ten Commandments in the public and religious spheres in America could be regarded as an opportunity for clarity on the part of preachers.  The study addresses the need for Church of God preachers to engage in cultural dialogue through a fresh preaching of the Ten Commandments.  The literature review surveys scholarly works regarding the context and meaning of the Decalogue in the Old and New Testaments, the meaning of the Commandments in light of a corrosive postmodern value system, and views of scholars and preachers regarding how to preach the Ten Commandments. The study included interviews with six Church of God Movement preachers, with the goal of learning about their experences related to the place of the Decalogue in the pulpit. These leaders participated in an opportunity to learn and implement a strategy for leading their congregations in the development of an environment of grace and reconciliation based upon the principles of the New Testament book of Philemon. Major factors that intervene to produce this disparity are denominational structures, educational requirements, racial and cultural influences. In Caucasian churches, ministers seem to be in paid staff positions while in African-American churches, many ministers (excluding pastors) are in positions with little or no compensation and appear to do many voluntary functions. Women in both types of churches are underutilized and seem to be in supportive roles. Two groups were formed by self-selection from the Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio tristate area of the Church of God (Anderson). One group participated in an anger-reduction workshop and the other group served as a control group. Levels of anger and burnout were measured in both groups before and after the workshop intervention.  Classic hostility and anger studies over the past five decades served as the foundation for the study. From the discovery of Type A behavior in the 1950s, research has identified anger (hostility), along with stress, as primary factors in coronary heart disease. Developing from this base, the study measured the effect of the Lifeskills intervention on anger reduction, and its relationship to the slowing of burnout. The study revealed a significant positive correlation between the reduction of anger and burnout. Although the study sample represents only 3.9% of the total population, a trend is indicated that begs further investigation.  The Lifeskills intervention workshop proved moderately successful in raising self-awareness, offering practical and usable coping strategies, and helping participants to reduce their level of anger, as well as their level of burnout.
