Christian churches must constantly face the pressure of ministering in a Latter-day Saint environment.  The high density Mormon population creates a unique dynamic that necessitates the ability to: explain the distinctives of the Christian faith; defend the accuracy of the Bible; and preach an accurate reflection of Christ to people influenced by this theology.  For this reason it is necessary to wrestle with current trends in Mormon doctrine and how they relate to Christianity.  This thesis evaluates current trends within the Mormon church to determine whether or not Mormonism is now Christian. It seeks and answers the question, 'What, if anything, has changed within Mormonism?' It wrestles with communication challenges presented by semantic confusion resulting from use in both faith traditions of a common faith vocabulary with substantially different meanings. Principles of cultural anthropology are used to formulate a communication strategy. One must seek to understand the historical and psychosocial dimensions of religious involvement as well.  The method of study for the thesis was the psychosocial, historical, and doctrinal comparison of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Unification Church, and Protestant evangelicals. Models are: Niebuhr's Christ as transformer of culture, Dulles' church as mystical communion, and Niebuhr's minister as pastoral director.  The family may act as a small church.  The thesis states that it is appropriate to use the form of the Family Home Evening Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in a United Presbyterian Church (UPC) using UPC content.  Twelve sessions were written. Seven LDS theological beliefs regarding families are considered and compared with UPC beliefs.  This presupposed that LDS theology gave more support to families than UPC beliefs. The thesis concludes that beliefs of one church are as strong for its members as beliefs of the other church are for its members. The research question is: What is the effect of the practice of specific spiritual disciplines upon leadership roles by laity within a local church setting?  A secondary question is: Does the regular practice of these spiritual disciplines promote change in leadership styles?
