The church has chosen to define the vocational call more in terms of function rather than its nature. Ministry that does not include a preaching element fits into the accepted categories of service in the church. However, this functional position undercuts the power of God's call to all and elevates clergy-related leadership as the more desired calling. Hence there is a need to ably and holistically evaluate the nature and not merely the function of the call. The focus of this project was to design a framework of Scripture, reason, experience, and tradition to clarify this process better assist those working through their sense of calling. It is hoped that under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, they will apply and exercise their calling to some aspect of full-time clergy or called laity ministry. The results of this study indicated a strong desire for a system to be in place that evaluates the call, in particular leadership not leading to ordination."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717260758089728,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:15:28.378Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:43:52Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:23:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ac752a94-610c-4296-9a8f-6382aea86ad6","accessControl_ssim":["c71b0329-699e-4a16-8af9-22a1915a1bd4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Directing the leadership team of the Newmarket Church of the Nazarene into the Christian discipline of discernment employing selected spiritual practices"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:43:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:06:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0a86997a-e7f6-4434-ab70-6ee22a346cae"],"hasLease_ssim":["e3b9d019-d002-4611-82b9-ba3ad19210a0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Tyndale University"],"advisor_tesim":["Elaine Becker"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lloyd Keith Taylor"],"publisher_tesim":["Tyndale University College and Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Discernment (Christian theology)","Evangelicalism","Spiritual formation","Spiritual life--Christianity","Holiness churches","Meditation--Christianity","Church of the Nazarene"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This research project directed the leadership team of the Newmarket Church of the Nazarene into the Christian discipline of discernment by employing selected spiritual practices. Data was gathered through written narratives and group interviews and analyzed by qualitative methods. The structure of the doctrine of entire sanctification, which focuses on personal experience, is too grounded in the past experiences of others. This leaves the preacher to try and bring others into a foreign experience or convince them they really have had the experience the preacher is referring to. This thesis will provide a fresh metaphor for understanding the doctrine of entire sanctification along with two hermeneutical approaches that will be pivotal for the preacher of doctrine. The metaphor and the two hermeneutical tools will center upon the prominence of personal experience as a theological tool."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716749658030080,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:07:20.955Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:03:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:52:31Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8a816c7a-0716-40f1-917e-0794706f8673","accessControl_ssim":["4abe9188-bf39-449f-a065-c66eb198e6d0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A description and critique of spiritual development programs of four Nazarene universities"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:03:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:11:50Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6826e3a8-1c4c-40af-a3fd-cf05118398ab"],"hasLease_ssim":["03f70127-7779-4ed4-bbd1-59aae0bdfd42"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["David Seiver"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Randell E Beckum"],"keyword_tesim":["Campus ministry"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Students--Religious life","Sanctification","Education","Church of the Nazarene","Spiritual formation","Spiritual life--Christianity","Protestantism"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The Church of the Nazarene owns and operates fifty-seven institutions of higher education around the world.
