Yet every year in every denomination, another minister leaves the ministry due to moral failure or burnout.  The purpose of this thesis is to explore the controllable factors which effect longevity in ministry.  Through a combination of research including a biblical/theological and literature review as well as survey research, statistical analysis and descriptive research, this thesis proposes that there are certain controllable factors which, when implemented, make leaving ministry less likely.  The result of this thesis/project was the production of a document entitled 'Ministry for Life' which contains the information gathered from the research listed above. Ten men and women in the Dalton District of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church committed four weeks to the project.  The district superintendent was the convener, a co-participant, and provided leadership by precept and example.  Sessions included theological foundations of wellness, a medical evaluation of each participant, identification of healthy eating and exercise habits, and application of learnings to the local church and community.  All participants met at least one of their goals relating to diet and/or exercise. The author includes a study of attitudes toward persons with disabilities, and two questionnaires.  Some pastoral care theories and practices are reviewed.  Conclusions are affirmative of contributions made by pastors with disabilities.  Those who have 'been there' do create a better sense of rapport with clients or parishioners going through painful life experiences.
