This project is an experiment in using current technology and development research to create a confirmation curriculum which is appropriate and appealing to sixth-graders while upholding the polity of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the theology of the Reformed tradition. The project combines biblical themes of alienation and transformation with popular culture portrayals of the outsider as mutant. This thesis explores biblical, historical and social contexts to show how a meaningful confirmation program endeavors to proclaim Christ to new and succeeding generations.  Its purpose is to challenge church adults to understand their role in the discipleship of their children.  The thesis project shows how a particular congregation studied the issues involved and developed an organizational strategy by which a more meaningful program could be instituted in the life of its church.  This is not only a research project; it is the story of a people who searched for a new understanding, struggled with the issues, and dared change a tradition which was no longer serving the needs of their youth. It begins with a historical review of initiation into the Christian Church and includes an extended section of infant baptism.  The theological stance based on covenant responsibilities and God's grace through Jesus Christ supports infant baptism.  The philosophical arguments involve how we know and communicate reality.  The experiential focus of the confirmation model contrasts with the more popular 'workbook' model.
