Qualitative research supports the fact that when the preacher is formed to understand the ministry of preaching as a gift from God that demands an investment of the whole person, the assembly is drawn into a deep relationship with the Risen Christ, which in turn fosters a desire for conversion of heart. The project director researched the field of new member assimilation. The research proved helpful as an annotated bibliography was developed with the various resources in the field of new member assimilation. The resources provided information for the construction of a list of best practices utilized in new member assimilation. The project director developed lesson plans and instructed the selected deacons on the key issues of new member assimilation. The selected deacons identified needs for the assimilation of new members into Bethel Baptist Church. The project director enlisted a field mentor, professional educator, and practitioner for the evaluation of different aspects of the project. Initial qualitative research revealed potential for improvement within the diaconate in a variety of formational, structural and perceptual domains. An eight week training process entitled Bridgebuilders was developed, operating under the thesis that it would have a slight but beneficial effect upon these domains. Answering 'Yes,' the second question was asked, 'When a deacon preaches, should he sound the same as a priest?' The answer was, 'No.' Finally, having shown through argument that there is a specific diaconal voice different from that of a priest, the question was asked, 'How is the diaconal voice taught?' The author designed, implemented, and tested a method of teaching the diaconal voice in the first semester of a deacon formation program. The project director researched numerous sources in order to develop a six-session curriculum for teaching mentoring skills. Experts in the fields of mentoring and curriculum development reviewed the research and curriculum throughout the project. The project director equipped thirteen men at Ginger Creek Community Church to mentor future leaders. He held the workshop in the spring of 2010. Through coaching, deacons took the next step of devising strategies to implement their God-given design in future deacon
