Disappointed Pastors are those who are currently in the midst of disappointment and burnout in their contexts of ministry.  Overcoming Pastors are those who have emerged from a time of disappointment and burnout.  The most often expressed sources of disappointment for both groups were higher expectations of laity, 'politics,' and administrative demands. The project involved in-depth interviews with church members who had experienced significant crises in their church. The responses fell into the catagories of: the church as community; memory; hope; aspects of the respondents' personalities; and pastoral leadership.  By far the most significant unifying force for these groups was the fellowship of the congregation.
