Learning to adapt, to adjust, and striving to achieve and to survive, in America, they are American citizens but no 'Americans.' In Vietnam, they are Vietnamese but not Vietnam's citizens. This exilic experience of Vietnamese American Catholics needs to be addressed in preaching. The Hebrews' exilic experience is helpful for Vietnamese Americans to voice their felt loss. Saarinen and its author's subsequent suggestion for revitalization. In so doing, she hopes to discover 1) the congregation's kairos moments, 2) implications for present and future ministries, and 3) how her ministerial gifts can best be used. The project necessarily explored the difference between 'chronos' history and 'kairos' history and the definition of 'testimony' and 'witness' in terms of Post-modern Christianity and 'exile' images. The congregation was interviewed and surveyed in both group and individual settings over a period of 2 1/2 years by both an interim pastor and the new pastor. The subjective data gathered was explored along with recurring themes from the pastor's journal.
