The focus of the project was to establish and lead a cross-cultural team, composed of pastors, ministry leaders, education specialists, and lay leaders drawn from VMCM membership, to develop a leadership training program and document that program in a training program plan. However, throughout their history, there have been influences that tried to undermine the work of God. Subjugation from foreign powers, poverty and abject living conditions caused the people to live in a survival mode and 'get whatever you can' mentality. But the plan of God has been for the people to be recipients of His grace and be channels of His grace. The observers rated their pastors fairly highly, except for a significantly lower rating on their 'challenging the process.' These congregations were forty percent smaller that the average congregation in the United States. To test the validity of this thesis, I preached sermons on hope before different audiences gathered to celebrate different occasions. Some of the people were teary-eyed, a few felt energized, and several faces were radiant--responses indicating that a redemptive transformation took place in peoples' lives. The author assumes that the dynamics inherent in narrative preaching is instrumental in bringing about these responses that can generate hope. The training has three objectives for the project participants: (1) increase knowledge of the origin, culture, character, theology and religious practices of the target group; (2) develop skill in witnessing; and (3) persevere in witnessing. The project engaged an eight phase process which included the following study: (1) theology of witnessing; (2) knowledge of basic history, culture, and theology and religious practices related to witnessing; (3) presentation of witnessing module; (4) and how to persevere in witnessing.  Testing instruments were also developed to test all goals and objectives. The results of a survey and evaluations revealed the religious needs and indicated an interest in continuing P.A.M. Library research on the Filipinos in Hawaii, exegetical works on selected biblical passages, and community and pastors' surveys were done.  The evaluation of the survey of Kalihi Baptist Church indicated that the English-speaking members preferred an integrated Filipino congregation.  The non-English speaking Filipinos preferred to have their own services. Pastors and staff of the Hawaii Baptist Convention want to see homogenous Filipino congregations.  Bilingual hymnals and literatures were prepared for the Filipino ministry in
