The themes throughout this paper are suffering, death, salvation, redemption, and resurrection. These are followed historically in the Old and New Testaments. Suffering in the OT is thought of variously as a punishment by God, an an educative process, as suffering caused by evil, etc. In the NT these views of suffering are modified in the light of Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection. Resurrection to life in the spirit completes the victory over suffering, sin, and death. The third and fourth chapters deal with these themes from a psychological perspective using the ideas of Jung and Frankl. Frankl's emphasis is the importance of finding meaning in suffering; Jung emphasizes the creative use of suffering. Chapter five is a theological perspective on the pain of God and our human dilemma. Shared suffering is important, and God shares our suffering. In the final chapter I have integrated suffering, death, and resurrection into my ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133510973521920,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:20:26.670Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:44:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:12:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"836d113c-88cb-4fcc-8952-d847e3fb39f5","accessControl_ssim":["1e207ab2-b01e-4556-bd25-d4e60cc7ca31"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Life-review: an application of logotherapy in pastoral care with senior adults"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:44:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:00:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["33bd6e3e-3da8-4892-af84-3c76d7fdc6ea"],"hasLease_ssim":["ca946a17-2d08-4057-9840-2ec235e83297"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["W David Richards"],"year_tesim":["1985"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Charles D Crow"],"publisher_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with older people","Pastoral psychology","Erikson, Erik H--(Erik Homburger), 1902-1994","Ego (Psychology)","Frankl, Viktor Emil","Butler, Robert","Psychotherapy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis is an integrative essay involving Viktor Frankl's assumptions of logotherapy, Erik Erikson's epigenetic life cycle theory, and Robert Butler's principle of life review as a therapeutic modality. Working from a meaning orientation, an integrating modality is developed following Erikson's theory in which the polarities of the final stage are seen as ego integrity or despair. As the past is reviewed the meaning of various situations and events can be reorganized and reintegrated into a more valid picture, giving new meaning to one's life and allowing the sense of ego integrity. Methodology for life review therapy is included."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["0f3d74d9-8a9b-4580-a458-c2d78a76b977"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717065413623808,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:12:22.083Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:09:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:40:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b0ad41ca-1f82-4ea3-acfb-46d5978d021e","accessControl_ssim":["e9b9c027-06ac-47c2-856a-312b145b42ff"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastoral care: some theological and psychological influences"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:09:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:13:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a928e8be-778f-4640-8c15-c10fad48d2b9"],"hasLease_ssim":["6eed6843-a39b-4fef-989e-0be65f78f9bd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["George Taylor"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Richard Henry Cox"],"publisher_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Bultmann, Rudolf Karl, 1884-1976","Tillich, Paul, 1886-1965","Freud, Sigmund, 1856-1939","Barth, Karl, 1886-1968","Rogers, Carl R. Schleiermacher, Barth, Bultmann, Tillich and Moltmann are considered as most important from theological literature. Freud, Jung, Frankl, Maslow, Rogers and May are the psychologists discussed. A case presentation is utilized to allow an interpretation of theological and psychological constructs. Specific conclusions and implications are drawn for pastoral care, theological education, church ministry and lay application. The basic constructs and conclusions of the work were presented to four different pastoral care audiences and the feedback from the participants is presented."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e84517db-6a02-4e61-8d84-c85c5905f6d5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127220571340800,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:40:27.675Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Charles D Crow","hits":1,"label":"Charles D Crow"},{"value":"Mary Gemma Neville","hits":1,"label":"Mary Gemma Neville"},{"value":"Richard Henry Cox","hits":1,"label":"Richard Henry Cox"},{"value":"Wong, Peter K.","hits":1,"label":"Wong, Peter K."}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Frankl, Viktor Emil","hits":4,"label":"Frankl, Viktor Emil"},{"value":"Jung, C.
