Ohio)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project is to research racial reconciliation in the Southern Baptist Convention and develop a workshop for the parishioners of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Cleveland, Ohio. In 2011, Liberty Hill Baptist Church took a step toward racial reconciliation by joining the Southern Baptist Convention. Parishioners, some of whom migrated from the South, expressed concerns about joining 'that racist organization.' However, despite their concerns, Liberty Hill voted overwhelmingly to join the SBC. Buried in the pile of 1,145 resolutions from 1845 to 2017 are resolutions specifically impacting African Americans. She sought to understand hurts, and the long lasting and negative impact of hurts on individuals and the church. The research was qualitative and used surveys and interviews. Upon analyzing the data the findings were compared and contrasted. The findings revealed passive aggressive behaviors such as gossip and spreading rumors as some ways congregants handled their hurts. Hurts were used by false accusations, a failure to show compassion, and lack of commitment, which negatively impacted the ministry. Guided Awareness focused on the preachers' spiritual reflection of their preaching rather than critiques or assessments. The hypothesis of the project is that preachers can transform their preaching for the common good of the Church by engaging in spiritual reflection. Research explored the call for preaching reflection. Preachers attended an introductory presentation, completed presentation surveys, participated in Guided Awareness experiences on their preaching, and completed a post-experience survey. This project predicts that by studying the scriptures and the liturgy for Holy Communion church members will develop a theology of table defined as an understanding of Holy Communion that arises out of a profound vision of who Jesus is, his sacrifice for humanity and his commandment to come to the table in remembrance of him. Much damage is done to the cause of Christ by internal conflict over authority and submission issues, especially in the North American Protestant sending faith mission boards. This thesis seeks to lay out a beginning working biblical theology of followership. Its conclusion is that Christian believers are called more to followership than leadership and a proper understanding of submission and obedience can aid greatly in the worldwide spread of the gospel. The thesis argues that the development and implementation of a biblical theology of submission and obedience will result in healthier, more sustaining, and effective missionaries and ministries. To illustrate such a statement, it will look at the early Society of Jesus under St. Ignatius of Loyola and the Moravian Brethren at Herrnhut under Count Nicholas Ludwig von Zinzendorf. Each will be explored as to their history, missionary movement and effectiveness, early documents, and spiritual practices.
