six Canadian Mennonite pastors to develop leadership competencies for a post-Christendom context. They met for eleven sessions of four hours over twelve months. A pre and post 360 survey, correspondence, field notes and session transcripts provided data that indicated positive development of the participants' missional leadership capacities. Experimentation, cohort learning and both experienced and local coaching were among elements that contributed to this development. Ten participants completed the workshop. A survey assessed participant's growth and development in biblical understanding, use of skills, appreciation for and willingness to exercise prayer, as well as self-esteem in regard to personal contributions and sense of partnership with God and others. The data supports the value of a workshop to equip teams. The implication of this project is that there is power in unity and sharing the tasks of ministry. The author also researched the development of the spiritual formation curriculum at the Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries since the 1980s, to discover why and what Mennonite spirituality is  becoming. The author learned that research participants are seeking a relationship to God, a connection to people, and personal spiritual growth. Drawing on the insights of family systems theory, particularly the concept of self-differentiation, the project focuses on the experiences of North American Mennonites, who in many ways have integrated into the surrounding culture but are still strongly influenced by the theology and practices of their tradition. Four questionnaires were responded to by 64 Zairian Mennonites and 10 Mennonite missionaries. Historical research was done at the Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission (AIMM) headquarters in Elkhart, Indiana.  Used also were interviews, missiological writings, biblical research, and the writer's missionary experience. It focuses on Mennonite work and problems faced regarding a lack of leaders, of growth, and of goals.  Case studies and questionnaires are used. In 1980, theological education by extension (geographical extension by a recognized institution) for both laypersons and leaders was proposed as a feasible solution.  In 1990, the basic situation having changed little, TEE is still seen as valid. But several other options exist, such as Mennonites in Japan starting their own program, or getting courses and faculty into key schools.
