A questionnaire was submitted to the leadership of the diocese, consisting of the Bishop, Canon to the Ordinary, and the members of the Standing Committee.  Women's ordination to the priesthood and acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle, together with threats to make the diocese conform, were the most crucial factors. This thesis will explore the sociological, historical, biblical and theological reasons that unequivocally discourage women from using their ministry gifts of teaching and preaching the Word of God within the context of the church.  The author used two surveys and a hexagon focus group to gather data. Results indicated that 32% of subjects were not in active ministry. What is the experience of a Baptist woman who is called to minister professionally? What has been the response of Baptists to her ministry? This project evaluates the steps and role a Baptist pastor and moderator of the Northern Virginia (NOVA) Baptist Association, namely Rev. Resistance to calling clergywomen to these ministries does not come from the older adults who would be served but rather from governing boards and institutional leaders who frequently lack education, experience, and principles of equality. The study was limited to 69 women respondents who represent ten denominations.  Data was gathered through written questionnaires distributed by mail. Results indicate that the ordination and employment process is difficult for women.  74 percent report being hurt in their search for employment and ordination and 50 percent have run into discriminatory practices.
