The point of persuasion is designated as those events that occur between considerations and belief. When a new premise is contradictory to previously held beliefs, there is a dissonance created. This dissonance creates the need for a decision. The activity of making a decision that is counter to currently held beliefs requires faith. This faith decision is the point of persuasion. The project describes interviews with ten preachers to identify ways they prepare and deliver the sermon in multiple settings from the same text. It examines the use of persuasive techniques in the preaching of the prophets, Jesus, and Paul. It examines the differences between positive persuasion, manipulation, and propaganda. It reviews the process of intentional persuasion in preaching. Two original sermons are presented, not as models, but as attempts to use the intentional processes recommended by the literature. The sermons were evaluated by the author's congregation and reviewed by a listening group of nine members. The resulting conclusion is that persuasion is a tool for effective preaching in the 1990s."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129955259645952,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:55.677Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:38:58Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:32:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6f27d3ae-8d5a-436d-9032-50ef6a0a279f","accessControl_ssim":["7825b1ea-1bb9-4b50-836c-7330db9c1211"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Collaborative preaching: persuasion and the spirit in close-up"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:38:57Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:23:10Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["aa8b9596-605f-484f-a3bb-550622ed2cf7"],"hasLease_ssim":["6bff1d0a-7216-4a98-b6a5-691212959f10"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethany Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Warren F Groff"],"year_tesim":["1991"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["June A Yoder"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethany Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Influence (Literary, artistic, etc.)","Persuasion (Psychology)","Preaching","Holy Spirit"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project focuses on the collaborative nature of preaching.
