The project director identified that many incarcerated individuals have a limited knowledge about managing personal conflict. Therefore, the project director prepared a five-session study that could be facilitated in a correctional ministry setting. In preparation for this study, the project director researched the field of personal conflict resolution. Preparation involved research in understanding the larger culture of our country, Maslow's hierarchy of needs, the context of the ministry and understanding a clear theological purpose justifying the project. Some collaboration between the Jerusalem United Holy Church and other agencies was part of the project, especially in identifying the children and exposing them to positive experiences. The project involved training mentors for the children by use of a PowerPoint presentation and measuring the effectiveness with pre- and post-tests. Using the DSM-III-R, this review identified the two most frequent diagnoses: dysthymic and antisocial personality disorders.
