This study is designed to motivate people through consciousness-raising to link the faith they possess to the way they behave economically. The project consisted of an 8-week study conducted at the United Methodist Church (Wellston, Oklahoma). A 165-page workbook was provided for use during the study. The project evaluation indicates that the course was effective in achieving its goals, while also covering too much material in too short a time frame."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720559942041600,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:07:54.725Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:36:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:48:01Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4370f370-16a8-47d4-9265-5264c5f79180","accessControl_ssim":["68419665-3f4b-4101-94de-db8a1163d8aa"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Take nothing for your journey: toward a simpler lifestyle attitude"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:36:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:05:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bb581230-734e-489c-aa79-1f67312e00bf"],"hasLease_ssim":["7baaa5fa-6dc7-4352-a9f9-22a3ed7854c6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Concordia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Arthur A Just"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gordon Crossfield"],"publisher_tesim":["Concordia Theological Seminary (IN)"],"subject_tesim":["Wealth--Biblical teaching","Simplicity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project was motivated by the lack of congruence between the profession of faith and lifestyle of a typical mainline Christian. The gospel of Luke records that first century hearers of the gospel altered their relationship with possessions by either abandoning or sharing them with others in need. When Jesus instructed his disciples to take nothing for their missionary journey he expected that their radical dependence on God for necessities would speak as loudly as their words. Twenty-five participants were asked to study Luke/Acts on this subject and a paper on simplicity as a practical application of Jesus' teaching to the 1990s. After a two-month period written reports from each participant were summarized in the conclusion of the dissertation. The results indicated a heightened awareness of the proper place of possessions in their lives and that Jesus' teachings affected them by causing a change of attitude and/or behaviour."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Concordia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f49f809a-65b5-4566-bfbb-5756e01b6bc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135249578590208,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:48:04.733Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:43:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:29:16Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d14dc942-60ae-4fa7-9b54-ab4283680f24","accessControl_ssim":["da9bfdee-3422-4a2a-845b-91b805bfcb21"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Letting go our grasp: explorations in a theology and an ethic of relinquishment"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:43:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:07:10Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d7e0e963-e517-44e5-b26d-b268a192881c"],"hasLease_ssim":["be77fe2e-dd84-4d5f-b834-3b20b0caf634"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Sondra Ely Wheeler"],"year_tesim":["1999"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The Christ-hymn of Philippians 2 is the scriptural model upon which the experiment was originally conceived. A small group of interested persons was assembled for the project. Using interviews, journals, and other tools which were utilized to measure the resources (money, possessions, but also time, health, values, etc.) of the project participants, steps were determined which might aid others who are interested in fashioning a simpler way of living. The project resulted in the participants' collective realization that obedience to God, born of gratitude for the grace, mercy, and provision of God, is the key for achieving a successful (faithful) outcome in the experiment of living more simply."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721904704061440,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:29:17.190Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":2,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
