Understanding the dynamics of a particular congregation is no less important.  This study is concerned with an aspect of particular congregations: congregations grieve.  It explores the nature of congregation and the nature of grief.  It argues that congregations grieve as one.  It shows ways to identify that grief, and pictures the dynamics of three congregations in grief. Compatibility is established in the first session of a five-session program by using William Schutz's FIRO-B inventory, family systems data, and the couple's courtship data.  During the fifth session, the couple retake the FIRO-B and again respond to a taped marital conflict.  The retest results show evidence of growth. Results from the program demonstrate that four of the five couples tested show an increase in negotiation learning and compatibility. The project demonstrates the compatibility of cognitive-behavioral social skill instruction with pastoral counseling for children. The study quantitatively evaluates the program's effect on the child participants' social skills.
