Biblical foundations for this work exist in stories about Moses and the letter to the Philippians.  There are also historical precedents.  Various studies have found that such groups can help individuals manage stress.  Forty ministry personnel were invited to participate in this study as part of facilitated, non-facilitated or control groups.  Stress and coping were measured using Human Synergistic's Stress Processing Report. The objective of the work is to address stress among clergy by developing collegial support and clarifying participant's visions of ministry. The programme is designed to run for six sessions, each lasting a full day. The author uses qualitative research methodology to describe and evaluate the experience of two groups who used the programme. The church's ministry response is reawakening its traditional role as sanctuary of rest and re-creation in response to modern change, identity loss, and 'timelock' which stimulates chronic stress.  This study examines the ways the church can empower members and congregations using rest for re-creation.  By examining traditional Christian Sabbath perspectives and modern scientific theories of human stress reduction and empowerment, this study prepares a process for churches to emphasize rest and stress relief. Church leaders from both churches participated in a training program which focused on vision development and team building.  Pre and post tests and interviews were utilized to measure the effectiveness of the program which revealed a marked reduction in the level of stress felt by the participants. The program assessed caregiver's stress reactions, gathered religious and spiritual resources, and used these resources for self-care.  Participants' beliefs, reactions to trauma work, and use of religion and humanistic spirituality to cope were evaluated by pre- and post-tests and audio-taped recordings of the group sessions.  Unique findings showed a need for more education and training to increase the awareness of stress reactions and the benefits of using religious and spiritual resources for
