Keeping, producing, and providing knowledge comes with cultural assumptions about what should be kept in a library, the types of knowledge they should help produce and services they should provide. As a member of Western society, the CTU library carries a legacy of colonial thought which has shaped the existing library collection and influences the knowledge produced by library users. Two primary, broad, necessary characteristics of professionals are spiritual maturity and cultural awareness. Two means of developing these are experience and discipleship. Experience is needed in their professional field, cross-cultural interaction, and Christian ministry; discipleship is needed to integrate good theology into one’s life, work and ministry. This project proposes a model for multi-faceted experience and integrated discipleship that moves professionals from self-awareness to Christ-like wholeness, and from cultural awareness to wise missiology. It summarizes roles for the Assembly, Agency, and Academy in general, and proposes specific action for Heritage Theological Seminary, in Cambridge, Ontario."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125419152375808,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:11:49.708Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:40:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:54:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d6528446-d5b8-461d-8f03-ccd0ea8e3166","accessControl_ssim":["41c7bfd1-68de-42ae-bb25-07f2704995ef"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A variety of gifts : theological and pedagogical inquiry on the teaching of biblical languages"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:40:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:15:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5e81f6db-3184-4fe0-82e4-d25f66d865a2"],"hasLease_ssim":["c9b43325-e2de-4041-98ca-ca7e37a9f073"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Jean Clandinin and F. Michael Connelly's three-dimensional narrative inquiry space as a template, the author reflects theologically and pedagogically upon twenty years' experience with biblical languages at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan. The theological emphases focus upon the theology of the learner, as shaped by the imago Dei of Genesis 1; the theology of the teacher, as embodied in Corinthians 9; and the theology of learning, as envisioned in 1 Corinthians 12.The pedagogical focus critiques the efficacy of Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences and the practicality of Randall Buth's listening comprehension approach to learning biblical languages. Buth's work builds upon the conclusions of second-language acquisition theorists and teachers Stephen Krashen, James Asher, and Harris Winitz. The author concludes that the work of both Gardner and Buth must be expanded to serve the theological goals of Western Theological Seminary. Gardner' s multiple intelligences theory can shape both how one learns and what one learns. Buth's emphasis upon fluency delays the shift to the rich rewards of biblical exegesis."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135685353144320,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:55:00.320Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:33:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:27:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3fcfa3cc-5f5d-474f-a419-381b172231d4","accessControl_ssim":["99d40092-eb55-4426-96ff-1b4f4c959a36"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An Evaluation of a Hermeneutics Course to Help Asian Seminarians Identify the Theological Thrust of a Biblical Narrative Passage for Expository Preaching"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:33:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:59:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a945453f-5923-4b8a-9570-6df5f84766ee"],"hasLease_ssim":["dc59e88c-31e7-41c8-ac35-4c0c706ed25f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Johann Y. Biblical narratives are stories often without explicit statements of teaching. A review of literature shows that there are deficiencies in various traditional approaches in identifying the author-intended thrust of a biblical narrative such as looking for good or bad models, arbitrarily creating principles for applications, and presuming linkage to redemptive-history. On the other hand, a literary approach and the notion of authorial doing with saying in linguistics are promising to help the interpreters identify the author-intended pericopal theology for preaching. It was hypothesized that by incorporating elements from the literary approach and notion of authorial doing in a hermeneutics course, the Asian seminary students might better identify the pericopal theology of a biblical narrative for preaching. The effectiveness of this approach was assessed in this research which was about program development and evaluation. Specifically, major changes were made to an existing basic hermeneutics course so that the students were introduced to key concepts and elements in the literary approach and notion of authorial doing with saying. An instrument was developed to collect both quantitative and qualitative data to assess the effectiveness of the final modified course. The instrument includes a pre-test and a post-test to generate quantitative data, and an open-ended question to gather qualitative data. The instrument was administered to a group of participating Asian seminarians. The data collected was analyzed to validate the hypotheses of the research project. The data verified all three hypotheses and affirmed that attending this course is associated with higher ability and confidence of the students in identifying the theological thrust of a biblical narrative for preaching. The dissertation suggests that such training approach may prove beneficial to seminary students in preaching in other contexts."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130210812297216,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:27:59.391Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:30:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:26:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"72997656-00a0-496e-9679-5ef62efa9294","accessControl_ssim":["f4b8473e-486f-4b13-ab90-e49ca0650484"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Forming Nigerian Vincentian Priests To Preach In Multicultural Settings"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:30:58Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:29:23Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ebda9af8-d81c-4a41-baec-9a32e09a2add"],"hasLease_ssim":["8f5c64ca-4e73-4613-a9ab-24e0ff2564d1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Preaching"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Maurice Nutt C.Ss.R D.Min."],"year_tesim":["2021"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Linus Aniekan Umoren C.M."],"publisher_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Education--Curricula","Theological seminaries","Preaching","Missionaries--Training of of","Clergy--Training of"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Before the Second Vatican Council, it was commonplace to think that the new churches in Africa, Asia, and Latin America were pastoral communities. However, following the missiological breakthrough of the Second Vatican Council, the Church of Christ, which is by nature missionary, is fully present in all legitimate local assemblies united with their pastors. Today, Africa, Asia, and Latin America have the largest Christian communities and produce an increasing number of missionaries. Nevertheless, the contemporary global migration and the resulting multicultural societies challenge the priestly formation of these new missionaries. To confront this contemporary challenge, the Congregation of the mission (The Vincentians), Province of Nigeria realizes the need to develop a formation curriculum that emphasizes the overall human development of the candidates for the priesthood and ensuring that preaching and mission in multicultural settings is a priority. Therefore, this study undertakes an examination of the current formation curriculum concerning how it promotes the self-awareness of the missionaries and their ability to understand cultural differences. It examines postcolonial theories regarding the self-awareness of priests. Furthermore, it studies narrative preaching to the extent that it benefits multicultural preaching. Moreover, the research establishes that adequate preparation for multicultural preaching needs a reframing of the Vincentian formation. This process will ultimately link the human formation of the priests to the missiological purpose of preaching in multicultural settings. Consequently, this study recommends rethinking the formation program and the formation faculty. It provides a framework and practical suggestions for an extended and improved curriculum in forming the Nigerian Vincentian priests."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130117961940992,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:26:30.842Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:24:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:41:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"54a36d23-a085-473f-bc50-1bdc3165df1f","accessControl_ssim":["ccf914a1-9c7c-43ed-a3a4-2e9e7ab3957e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Dare to change : adaptive leadership internship experiences by seminary interns in field education"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:24:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:36:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d818eacb-2986-4d84-9fc0-702bf7ec29de"],"hasLease_ssim":["0acc2141-2397-45c9-a989-07b841d09d82"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Denise D. The instructor, using ethnographic methodology combined with Heifetz's reflection process of observation, interpretation, and intervention, explored the interns' narrative findings concerning their ability to identify leadership challenges. The conventional wisdom that students would be limited in their ability to use Heifetz and Linsky's leadership characteristic due to lack of ministerial experience proofed unfounded.
