Baltimore Conference"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Lay speaking has a long heritage.  This project briefly recounts the history of that lay involvement in American Methodism.  It further provides a synopsis of the evolution of the lay speaking program in general and in the Baltimore North District in particular.  The first chapter concludes with the principles of religious education undergirding the newly-designed lay speaking classes. Those courses are described in chapters II and III. Chapter IV reports on the programs offered in the other districts. Baltimore Conference"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study was undertaken to examine and assess the needs of the spouse and children of clergy pertaining to the ministerial appointment and relocation process. Current needs and practices within the Baltimore and Peninsula Annual Conferences (Washington area) of the United Methodist Church are investigated. The investigative research for the study was obtained through the use of field interviews and two direct mail surveys. The field research survey questionnaires were mailed to clergy and their spouses who had relocated with the Baltimore and Peninisula Conferences within a four year period.  Findings are presented and evaluated. The thesis also refutes theological and biblical justifications for racism and suggests methods of addressing the issue today. The project was a six-week presentation shared with selected members of an all-white church and an all-black church who studied the material researched for the thesis. Rewards were identified in three categories, i.e. Financial and Material, Status and Relationships and Spiritual.  The study method was in three parts.  The first was an analysis of ordinary and biblical usage of the word 'reward.'  the second was a questionnaire survey of all parish ministers in Baltimore Annual Conference.  The third was a series of three dialogue groups held among parish ministers in Baltimore Annual Conference.
