Classical terms like virtue and vice, and with them excellence, integrity, character, courage, justice, wisdom, and self-control are often said but are heard as unrelated vocabulary words and so easily manipulated. What is needed is for youth to have a foundation of virtue as a whole in a biblical perspective so that they can begin to wisely build upon this concept intellectually, practically, and spiritually throughout their lives. \r\nReviewing virtue works past and present, this study explores the exegetical, historical, systematic, and practical resources for teaching virtue in order to create a tool for instilling virtue to the Church’s youth and all who will learn, especially for the Confirmation class at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The effectiveness of this resource over seven weeks of Confirmation classes was then evaluated by reactions from the kids, catechists, and parents, along with triangulation measures from area churches not using this resource. May this endeavor be blessed to know Peter’s intended outcome: “For if these are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ… Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these, you will never fail” (2 Pt 1:8, 10)."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Concordia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f49f809a-65b5-4566-bfbb-5756e01b6bc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","roger.peters@ctsfw.edu"],"_version_":1791135343738617856,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:49:34.531Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-12-13T13:40:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:50:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d58d8b09-0c14-4c8d-ab1f-5b863e102d3c","accessControl_ssim":["084e4ae4-77a7-4eb3-8f2d-d7cb3019ebfe"],"depositor_ssim":["roger.peters@ctsfw.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["roger.peters@ctsfw.edu"],"title_tesim":["Vocation: Helping Teens Discover and Live Out Their High Calling"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-12-13T13:40:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:14:07Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["eff33b1f-3e7e-44af-b5a2-aca376014efc"],"hasLease_ssim":["55195761-175d-41d1-ba1d-0886778c204a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Concordia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David L. Alternatively, the biblical concept of vocation teaches that people serve as God’s agents to lovingly sustain the world through their roles (vocations) in life—in family, at work, in the community and church. Teens need of what the teaching of vocation offers. A high calling is offered through the biblical concept of vocation. However, there are few, if any, materials or curricula available to teach the concept of vocation for today’s high school audience. The concern over a lack of materials or curricula on vocation prompted the focus of this project. If materials were created for a high school audience, and then taught, would the topic be seen as relevant and resonate with the audience? Further, would this material also be comprehended and understood? The challenge of this project was to create a curriculum that would be designed in such a way that the concept would be remembered and applied. This experiment in ministry helped the writer grow in the understanding of the topic of vocation and, through providing a written curriculum, introduced students to a new way of seeing their life in Christ and God’s ultimate purpose for them in being a channel of His love and care to others."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Concordia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f49f809a-65b5-4566-bfbb-5756e01b6bc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","roger.peters@ctsfw.edu"],"_version_":1791135432398864384,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:50:59.084Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-12-12T21:31:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:51:31Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e94d32c3-83f4-4987-950a-7e91d70a5e60","accessControl_ssim":["f305bbbe-ea0f-40a0-998d-fcae4f4b7af5"],"depositor_ssim":["roger.peters@ctsfw.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["roger.peters@ctsfw.edu"],"title_tesim":["From Disorder to Order: Using the Three Estates to Establish Godly Order in the Congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-12-12T21:31:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:48:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2646b0e3-5be4-4a9d-980b-1f6ec573edb1"],"hasLease_ssim":["c6d43521-9b34-442a-8ef7-11bf0cec70d3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Concordia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Gifford Grobien"],"committee_member_tesim":["Benjamin Mayes","Naomichi Masaki"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Long-standing rivalries can come to the forefront and create dissension and strife that threaten to tear apart God's people. Satan uses human sin to stir up disorder within the Christian congregation. God's word, however, is an ordering word that overcomes the work of Satan to reestablish good order.\r\nThis project addresses an instance of congregational conflict that occurred as the result of the decline and eventual closure of the school that was operated by St. Paul Lutheran Church in Milford Center, Ohio. The congregation was divided between those who felt that the school was too great a financial burden for the congregation to continue to carry and those who believed that the school was too vital a piece of the spiritual development for the congregation's children to allow it to close. The period in question was one of great strain to the congregation that resulted in division and disagreement and disorder.\r\nThe doctrine of the three estates affirms that God has designed a specific order into his creation through his institution of the church, the family, and the civil government. Within these estates, God has established a holy order with offices that have been given a specific domain in which they are to exercise authority as a trust and stations that are given to be subordinate to those offices. These offices are arranged within the spheres of the three estates, namely the church, the household, and the civil government. Through authority, God protects the individual members of a community and ensures their protection and provision. God calls on each member of the community to willingly place themselves under the care of their authorities. Conflict and disorder arise when authorities misuse or abuse their office or when members of a community refuse to practice subordination.\r\nThe intent of this study was to teach the scripture passages and related doctrine to the members of St. Paul Lutheran Church during its period of disorder. Special attention would be given to teach the spiritual discipline of subordination together with the right use of authority. Subordination is the willing surrender of oneself such that the individual takes the role of a servant within a community. Likewise, authority is to be used in service to the community and in subordination to Christ. The assumption of the study is that God's word is an ordering word and through the teaching and the preaching of that word order would be restored. A teaching plan was developed that sought to make the doctrines concrete using visual aids and metaphors. Following the teaching, a survey was conducted to determine the effectiveness of that teaching. The subsequent calm and the restoration of order and a well-functioning congregational hierarchy suggest that the effort was successful."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Concordia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f49f809a-65b5-4566-bfbb-5756e01b6bc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","roger.peters@ctsfw.edu"],"_version_":1791135469850853376,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:51:34.801Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-12-12T21:04:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:47:29Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"240ac77d-acb0-453a-a50f-662623572077","accessControl_ssim":["95d86908-f2f2-407d-b29e-f900018ac13a"],"depositor_ssim":["roger.peters@ctsfw.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["roger.peters@ctsfw.edu"],"title_tesim":["Speaking With One Voice: Catechesis in the Home, the Congregation, and the School"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-12-12T21:04:34Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:11:46Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d705f5a0-3268-4254-9f8c-29002819caff"],"hasLease_ssim":["b4d50a4a-44af-4092-ae16-b35ebf574141"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Concordia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Gifford A. Parents also have a duty to teach the faith to their children. When congregations have Christian day schools there are also teachers who have the opportunity to teach the faith to their students. While there is one faith, and we have received a pattern of sound words, unfortunately, even in the church, the teaching of pastors, parents, and teachers is not always unified, to the detriment of those who hear such dissonant voices. In order to synthesize the teaching voices in the congregation, home, and school, a method of catechesis was developed by the researcher to be used by the pastors, parents, and teachers in his ministry context. Using the Six Chief parts of the Small Catechism as a structure, the method includes an original daily lectionary with questions for use in the home (and school) and serves a two-fold purpose: 1) to synthesize around the Six Chief Parts of the Small Catechism all of the voices given by God to teach the faith; and 2) to encourage and equip parents, especially fathers, to take up the catechetical task for their children."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Concordia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f49f809a-65b5-4566-bfbb-5756e01b6bc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["roger.peters@ctsfw.edu","ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135217739628544,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:47:34.369Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:09:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:03:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"62d8e3a7-7400-4d80-877e-b29399038266","accessControl_ssim":["9b896d6b-05be-4416-851c-455571fe33f1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A Strategy for Revitalizing Calvary Christian Church through the Baptist Resource Network's Three Key Behaviors"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:09:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:01:46Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["df92000e-f66c-4304-8370-3335da1f1bd9"],"hasLease_ssim":["94049e56-01af-4d0f-a65f-6241a1020b19"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Missio Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert James Fontell Jr."],"subject_tesim":["Baptist Church","Church renewal","Congregational Church","Mission of the church","African American churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Statistics indicate that thousands of churches have experienced decline to such an extent that without intervention, these churches will reach the death stage in the life cycle of the church. This thesis-project explored the possibility that embracing a Christian identity can help second-generation Chinese American college students and young adults navigate the potential difficulties between their ethnic and national identities. To help participants embrace a Christian identity and apply it to their cultural identities, a 13-week lesson series, Between Two Worlds, structured around the categories of believing, being, belonging, and behaving, was implemented. Participants took initial and final surveys to evaluate the efficacy of the lesson series in establishing the necessity of a Christ-centered identity and in providing a mental framework for identity development."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://archive.org/details/between-two-worlds-thesis"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130291943768064,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:16.764Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:08:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:37:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"49513a41-ca72-42d3-8134-2fdda8108f27","accessControl_ssim":["97e2e190-d745-44da-8bce-435215f86022"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping Next Generation Ministers at Cross Church, Northwest Arkansas, with Strategic Evangelism Implementation Skills"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:08:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:16:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1b62515e-2fd7-4e58-bf58-a0423ca84b50"],"hasLease_ssim":["ad6c1b82-1c6e-442f-a7a6-0a7e5ed7419b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Randy Stone Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Arkansas"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The proposed project follows the preaching-skills enhancement model. The project director researched the field of expository preaching for best practices. An expert in the field of expository preaching evaluated the best practices. Based on best practices, the project director developed a series of sermons for evaluation by an expert in the field of preaching and an expert in the Old Testament before they are delivered. After feedback, the project director delivered the developed sermons to the Black Creek Baptist Church congregation. Selected congregants provided input to the project director through listening guides. An expert in expository preaching evaluated the sermons through a video presentation. In the end, a final evaluation took place by the project director to determine the level of enhancement in the preaching skills in the field of expository preaching from historical narrative portions of Scripture."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5e492469-490e-44a3-90c1-17560a603bc2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717047668572160,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:12:05.160Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:08:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:05:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"feb08658-7808-458f-a7fd-7ebc27873016","accessControl_ssim":["9e6d922a-2d64-4452-adf7-d693d65f7615"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping Selected Adults of Marion First Baptist Church, Marion, Arkansas, with Essential Team-Based Assimilation Skills"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:08:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:24:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["04ed1fc4-45b1-42ff-9944-8062272fe891"],"hasLease_ssim":["37601082-5afb-4b94-8051-0fcaafd3f27a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jake Roudkovski Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Arkansas"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min.
