Centered on two congregations in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, this qualitative multiple-case study explores how church plants and community-rooted ministries navigate questions of sustainability, leadership, legitimacy, and mission within contexts shaped by economic disenfranchisement, racial marginalization, and uneven institutional support.\r\n\r\nDrawing upon interviews, congregational narratives, theological reflection, and ecclesiological analysis, this study investigates the organizational, relational, and theological patterns that contribute to congregational continuity and resilience. Particular attention is given to the ways ministry within marginalized communities frequently operates through networks of relational trust, communal presence, shared responsibility, adaptability, and spiritual commitment rather than through institutional models typically associated with dominant church-growth paradigms.\r\n\r\nThe findings reveal that congregational sustainability within marginalized contexts cannot be adequately measured solely through traditional institutional metrics such as financial stability, numerical growth, or organizational scale. Instead, participating congregations demonstrated forms of ecclesial vitality rooted in relational ecosystems of care, interdependence, community memory, and grassroots leadership. The study further identifies tensions between dominant ecclesial assumptions and the lived realities of ministries serving marginalized communities, particularly regarding how legitimacy, effectiveness, and sustainability are defined and evaluated.\r\nThis dissertation argues that broader theological and institutional conversations surrounding church planting, sustainability, and leadership formation must become more attentive to the experiences and insights emerging from marginalized congregational contexts. By centering the voices and practices of underrepresented ministry communities, this research contributes to practical theology and ecclesiology through a more relational, contextually grounded understanding of church, mission, and congregational life.\r\n\r\n"],"abstract_tesim":["This qualitative multiple-case study examines how two Black congregations in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania establish and sustain ecclesial life within socioeconomically marginalized contexts shaped by racial inequity, economic disenfranchisement, and uneven institutional support. It argues that Western institutional models of interreligious dialogue inadequately account for Ghana’s lived, communal pluralism. My Leadership Narrative traces my progression from a challenging polygamous upbringing to pastoral ministry, and from secular leadership in central banking to theological training. This illustrates the transformative power of resilience, faith, and divine intervention. My DMin research project builds on these experiences, my Philosophy of Leadership, and my Context Exegesis. It combines classroom training with practical fieldwork to strengthen the leadership skills, character, and intimacy with God of church planters in the Foursquare Gospel Church of Asokoro, Abuja, Nigeria. Fifteen participants were mentored so they could develop Servant Leadership and Adaptive Leadership skills, which aligned with Jesus’ approach to leadership. A digital questionnaire, the Conceptualizing Leadership Questionnaire (CLQ), and the Spiritual Assessment Inventory (SAI) were used before and after the training to evaluate the participants’ growth in these areas. Before training, 8 participants reported gradual spiritual growth, and 7 indicated substantial growth. After the training, 12 reported substantial spiritual development. The findings affirmed that combining fieldwork with classroom instruction enhanced leadership capacity, personal character, and intimacy with God, shaping both who the leader becomes and what the leader does.\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["wurantivincent@mytyndale.ca"],"_version_":1845266553634816000,"timestamp":"2025-10-06T20:41:59.125Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-09-12T21:12:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-09-12T23:35:09Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d87180eb-79b1-487b-bb5c-bb895b3143c6","accessControl_ssim":["d02b6a46-f331-452c-9a81-03a6685ef5ac"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["f8db9f63-104a-43db-8f10-d455724c7107"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["f8db9f63-104a-43db-8f10-d455724c7107"],"depositor_ssim":["tdam11@yahoo.com"],"depositor_tesim":["tdam11@yahoo.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching About Intimate Partner Violence Against Women In The Vietnamese American Catholic Community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-09-12T21:12:48Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-09-12T23:35:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8930ecfe-63db-45f3-9252-9a3558f2cfac"],"hasLease_ssim":["42797420-38df-4664-b9a1-c729992a95f9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"format_tesim":["PDF"],"degree_tesim":["D.Min. in Ministry of Preaching"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Martha Rapp, D.Min., Advisor","Charles W. It addresses the persistent reluctance of Vietnamese Church leaders to confront this issue, a reluctance often rooted in cultural, systemic, and theological barriers. Drawing upon interdisciplinary research in sociology, psychology, and trauma studies, alongside a re-examination of Catholic theological foundations on human dignity and marital equality, this work proposes and evaluates a Prophetic Pastoral Narrative Preaching Model. Through a structured training seminar for clergy and lay leaders, this thesis demonstrates how culturally sensitive and theologically informed homiletic innovation can empower the Church to dismantle IPV, foster hope and healing for survivors, and cultivate a community where silence no longer reigns."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/","https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/","https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/","https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0/","https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/","https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/","https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/mark/1.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/f8db9f63-104a-43db-8f10-d455724c7107?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["f8db9f63-104a-43db-8f10-d455724c7107"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["f8db9f63-104a-43db-8f10-d455724c7107"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["tdam11@yahoo.com"],"_version_":1843103173619744768,"timestamp":"2025-09-12T23:35:59.168Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-05-16T20:41:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-05-16T20:41:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3d9d75e3-187b-4e5c-806c-5e4ac4cf7aa3","accessControl_ssim":["8d852c5b-4d27-4d9e-9120-2be0038f3ade"],"depositor_ssim":["smccart@aol.com"],"depositor_tesim":["smccart@aol.com"],"title_tesim":["Journey of the Heart: What I Have Learned from United Methodist Deaconess/Home Missioners in the Philippines"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-05-16T20:41:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-05-16T20:41:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["65639f12-ec1e-4eac-9ca2-d8b73959560c"],"hasLease_ssim":["8fe27043-7f8e-491e-a6fb-26ea0f6ad76d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"format_tesim":["PDF"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Creative Writing and Public Theology"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Liberty Ferda","B.
