As a writer of the Pentecostal Holiness Sunday school curriculum aimed at Generation X, this writer wanted to develop a program evaluation of this material to determine if it is relevant to Generation Xers. The attitudes of both those within and without the church will be examined after they respond to a survey upon reading two Sunday school lessons. The assumption is that the material will not be as relevant to those outside of the church. The goal of this paper is to discover how to make Sunday school curriculum more interesting and relevant to the lives of Generation Xers. As the Baby Boomers are rapidly aging, it is important to learn how to disciple this particular generation. The message of the gospel must remain constant, but the way of reaching Generation X may prove to be vastly different from formerly successful methods. Using a four-level strategic plan which includes the sharing, recruiting, and training of church members by the formal and practical methods, the author presents the biblical, theological, historical, socio-cultural, religious and political backgrounds with special discussion on ancestor worship and the Three-Self church in addition to personal field experiences with both long- and short-term tentmakers. The method used includes observation-participation with formal and informal interviews. Sermons for a congregation of elderly are compared to sermons on the same text for a mixed age congregation.  Signs of God's transforming grace at work are noted.  Preaching that is oral and embodied, using stories and images, is really effective. Chapter one introduced the project, providing background on the church and explaining the research methodology employed.  Chapters two and three were the heart of the project. Chapter two explored the biblical, historical and theological issues in worship. Two specific biblical texts (Isaiah 6 and John 4) were studied to consider the biblical call to worship.  Chapter looked at the contemporary worship scene, coming to the conclusion that a fresh approach to worship is needed today.  Chapters four and five outlined the actual work done in the project.  The four sermons and worship services, as well as the response of the church to them, were central. The study confirmed the author's thesis that these ministries are unified by a culture of hospitality through the theme of 'welcoming the stranger.'  This project was designed to study how this culture of hospitality has been experienced by this congregation. An action research method was used whereby new course workbooks were written and implemented as the course curriculum. Students were interviewed pre- and post-course and responses compared. While some homileticians have argued that preaching is in a state of crisis, I believe preaching is evolving according to a new understanding of our universe.  Visionary preaching moves beyond the old linear models of preaching based on a Newtonian mechanistic model of the universe. Behind the chaos of our postmodern world, the pattern of God's grace and power are at work.  Visionary sermons must use a chaotic model for preaching about and for change.
