A telephone survey solicits data from 169 churches, and a random sample of 30 churches are personally interviewed using an extended survey instrument.  The project subjects responses to exploratory and inferential analyses, using the multiple and stepwise regressions. The Growing in Christ material, published by the Navigators, was translated into the Vietnamese language for the purpose of discipling new Vietnamese immigrant converts in Canada.  The case study and survey methodology were employed to conduct research and collect data.  The proposed discipleship material was field-tested.  Average and mean responses of the questionnaire were tabulated and analyzed. The Emmanuel Korean Presbyterian Church (Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a small immigrant community church that shapes its evangelism in response to the Great Commission.  This thesis delineates the evolution of the Emmanuel Korean Church from its inception to its present state. The author, therefore, sought for healthy models among growing churches in such settings and studied their common characteristics. Twenty-one possible growth dynamics were identified and eleven churches were studied to ascertain which of these dynamics were common to them and to what degree they might account for growth. Fifteen characteristics were found to contribute to the growth of churches and nine of these emerged as significant. A questionnaire was sent to some evangelists in North America inquiring about the effectiveness of various evangelistic methods.  Five evangelistic crusades were conducted.  Two were conducted according to the newly developed strategy and three were conducted without the strategy.  Each crusade conducted with the strategy was analyzed and compared with those that were conducted without the strategy. Since racism was a major problem among the urban native people, he decided to begin his qualitative research with this problem.  He designed a series of six sessions based on the pastoral circle.  Meeting with groups of elders, adults and youth, he was seeking an aboriginal model for social action.  The discoveries not only revealed that the native people contributed to a deepening of the phases of the pastoral circle, but they also revealed a 'life cycle' which is analogous to the pastoral circle.  It begins with vision, moves through time, comes to wisdom or practical knowledge, and concludes with movement, which is the action flowing from the wisdom. In addition to a premeditation of the steps to be taken during the initial year of the church there is a chronicling of the implementation of this strategy integrated with a post-evaluation.  The available resources and the role of the sponsoring churches are discussed in the early chapters. Getting to know the target audience, allowing them exposure to the developing church, and effectively communicating the gospel are subsequent key areas covered.  Securing a response to Christ that grew out of understanding, and which took into account culturally appropriate patterns of decision-making was a major concern of the church planters.
