Shane"],"keyword_tesim":["Deacons"],"subject_tesim":["Servant leadership","Baptist Church"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to equip selected deacons of Macedonia Baptist Church, Petal, Mississippi, with basic deacon ministry competencies. After  researching related biblical texts, existing models of deacon training, and selected resources in the field of study, the project director produced a curriculum for equipping deacons. Credentialed experts in church ministry, curriculum design, and leader training provided helpful evaluation and insight in the research and development of the project director’s curriculum.\r\n\r\nUsing this curriculum, I trained selected deacons during a five-session workshop held on a Friday evening and Saturday morning. Research in the field of study revealed a consensus for six basic deacon ministry competencies: benevolence, conflict resolution, evangelism, family ministry, ordinances, and partnering with the pastor. The project director utilized curriculum-based training sessions to teach the students essential strategic leadership skills. Using leadership research built upon theological foundations, he created a ten-step training process with an acronym titled LEADERSHIP. The college plans to implement a degree in leadership communication in the near future. Thus, a byproduct of the project was that Blue Mountain College students were introduced to a new field of study as a result of the project's completion. To complement the degree in leadership communication, the college provost hopes to offer a recurring course in strategic leadership at Blue Mountain College. This purpose was achieved through a strategy planning model. The project director conducted the project while serving as Executive and Education Pastor of Highland Colony Baptist Church. The project was completed in four phases. The firsts two phases consisted of research on existing models of leadership training and the field of strategy planning respectively. The third phase of the project focused on the development of a volunteer-leader training strategy for Highland Colony Baptist Church. The development process utilized a select group of leaders from the church. The final phase of the project was the presentation of the volunteer-leader training strategy to Highland Colony Baptist Church for approval.
