The project began with exploring the internal demographics of First Baptist Church Wiggins, Mississippi, to identify young adult members and their progress toward spiritual maturity. The next step explored existing strategies of young adult discipleship and identified best practices. The project utilized a strategic leadership team consisting of a broad group of church members to develop a young adult discipleship strategy for First Baptist Church, Wiggins, Mississippi. In the first phase of this project, I explored existing discipleship methods to determine best practices and conducted a church survey to reveal the spiritual health of FBC. A demographic study revealed the spiritual health of Neshoba County. Third, with the deacon’s approval, I selected a strategy team from the FBC membership and included the ministerial staff. The team and I used the summary of best practices, results from the spiritual survey of FBC, and the demographic study of Neshoba County to develop a strategy. The strategy team evaluated the accumulated methods of making disciples and created a discipleship strategy for FBC. Finally, the strategy team helped establish a course of action for presenting the discipleship strategy to the deacon body and congregation. I presented the strategy and implementation plan to the deacon body for feedback and approval. The deacons unanimously approved the discipleship strategy. I am in the process of preaching through the discipleship strategy in Sunday morning worship, and some of the members of  the strategy team have established pilot D-Groups. From this, along with other  church members, five pilot D-Groups have been meeting this fall. To accomplish this goal, I collected information about the membership and involvement level of new church members including LifeGroup attendance, DGroup attendance, involvement in serving, and a general survey of their familiarity with each of these as well as the church's core doctrinal beliefs. I selected three churches that assimilate new members well and researched their processes. I also created an annotated bibliography of relevant resources to guide this project. From the research, I identified and organized best practices. I also developed a strategic planning team to assist in discerning weaknesses in the church’s current process and needed improvements based on the research from other churches. The strategic planning team identified areas for improvement and created an assimilation strategy. The pastor needed help administering pastoral care throughout the congregation as he could not provide adequate care to the entire congregation alone. Thus, Sunday school teachers and leaders received training in selected pastoral care competencies to enhance the ministry of the church as it continued to grow.\r\n\r\nI began by researching the field of pastoral care to identify essential pastoral care competencies. The congregation provided input regarding which pastoral care competences were essential needs of Thompson Baptist Church. With the competencies determined, I, as the pastor and project director, designed a training curriculum to teach the essential competencies to the adult Sunday school teachers and leaders. Discipleship is an element that this church has been missing. The church has used the Sunday morning pulpit and attendance in Sunday school as the discipleship strategy. The issue is the church has not had a strategy to intentionally help people grow closer and be changed by Jesus. The purpose of this strategy was to create a strategy which would promote intentional discipleship for the adults of Liberty Baptist Church. I will utilize demographic studies, research, and a strategy team to develop a strategy for Liberty Baptist.
