It gathers material from interviews conducted in Spanish communities along the eastern seaboard, especially in the Spanish church setting of Manchester, New Hampshire.  Maslowian theory concerning human motivation, conflict between birth-culture ties and a competitive society and the scarcity of bi-lingual, cross-cultural programs shaped the author's philosophy of pastoral care.
