Many consider the church to be a home. How do we extend welcome and hospitality to those in our context? In this paper, I link the power of storytelling in film to developing a theology of hospitality. To share meals with strangers is one of the most powerful and practical things we can do to help the church shape a more just and hospitable spirituality. Through film, the study of scripture, prayer practices, and table discussions, can we link our present and future faith practices to a theology of hospitality? A final analysis will allow us to begin clarifying what effective and transformative practices of hospitality in the name of Christ looks like."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126593711636480,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:30:29.855Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:52:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:38:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"78f7ce54-933f-45d1-abe0-0262e18b9913","accessControl_ssim":["4b4cae01-e3f5-462a-8106-457f05c2f3da"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sustaining A Prayer Life Among Clergy And Congregational Leaders"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:52:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:41:16Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5ff36fd1-6c71-498c-8aec-ede07a3c6770"],"hasLease_ssim":["2b48c2da-9aa9-41c1-9f6d-8fe67849aacd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Christian Reformed Spirituality"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James Durlesser Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Engaging Biblical texts, Reformed Polity, the Spirituality of Aging, and key theologies––Practical, Vocation, Discipleship and Life-Long Learning––the project offers the church a clear vision for the future and a tangible plan to organize, energize and engage the congregation. The implementation of the project, involving the Worship and Christian Education ministries of the church, as well as the qualitative social research methodologies of self-report questionnaires and guided interviews, enabled the project to clearly communicate that vision and plan, and convey the sense of validation needed to establish participants trust, so crucial to the success of the project. Historical perspectives of American Presbyterian evangelism show that unresolved tensions over the certainty of conversion, sudden or nurtured, were absorbed by compromise. Theological and biblical inquiries searched the salient underpinnings for Reformed evangelism. Are new models possible today? The study investigated works of Calvin, Barth, Moltmann and others, with new contributions made. Conclusions present evangelism in the context of Christian vocation, discernment of being chosen by Christ for the Lord's purposes as proof of discipleship.
