When I first arrived, the church was closed and set to be demolished.  By inspiring the remaining congregation, and empowering them using the principles espoused by the Second Vatican Council of reversing the hierarchy of the clergy and by following Jackson W. Carroll's model of how to exercise authority, they performed outreach in the surrounding community, extending an invitation to non-affiliated Catholics to attend Saint Peter's, and by listening to the spiritual needs of the people. The result was the expansion of the church to the point that it was possible to reopen the church building. The project began because there seemed to be no real ministry being conducted in regard to the families of the incarcerated.  Through the utilization of surveys, interaction with various governmental agencies, and direct initiative to the targeted people group, it became evident that there were substantial difficulties that had to be overcome by the church, the employees of the Colorado Department of Corrections, and the families of the incarcerated for true ministry to occur. Yet many of these church members were well educated and some of these lay-leaders could be trained as lay-preachers. The objective of this project is to train and empower a group of lay-leaders to preach in the first generation Chinese immigrant churches. The project will conduct 16-20 sessions of training, some practical preaching opportunities, and the evaluations. The equipping model was utilized in this project. The project began with the project director's research on the biblical doctrines and concluded with the equipping of the select group of believers. The research included demographic data specific to the Hmong people community in northeast Georgia, USA, and personal evangelism strategies available to train Christians locally and nationally. Mexicans in particular share their practices with the larger Catholic community.  This challenges congregations and preachers as they attempt to minister to this ever growing population. The author begins with an exploration of the current wave of immigration, comparing and contrasting it with past immigration history. The first step of the project involved researching effective methods of evangelizing unchurched people.  Once this research was complete, the project director led a team in developing a strategy for evangelizing unchurched persons living in the communities surrounding Pine Grove Baptist Church, Trenton, Florida. It considers theological research in the area of evangelism and reviews current literature about outreach, focusing on relationships, friendship evangelism, and using recreational settings in outreach. Described are the processes and methods that were used to develop, implement, and evaluate the training of laypeople to become better witnesses in recreational settings. The findings suggest that training for evangelism in recreational settings used in conjunction and the use of such recreational settings used for intentional evangelism help those providing a Christian witness.
