In addition, these OBC leaders will need to incorporate two more practices to reach their second-generation: (1) embrace a biblical culture above either culture of origin and (2) create processes that empowers the second-generation in leadership. This research project evaluated these three practices within three churches that were determined to be reaching their second-generation.This dissertation was divided into three parts. It opened with a literature review that examined each of the three practices relating to vision, culture and leadership. The dissertation then continued with the construction of the research procedure, utilizing the case study approach. Three Chinese immigrant churches were chosen for this study: Houston Chinese Church, Mandarin Baptist Church of Los Angeles and West Houston Chinese Church. The qualitative research method was applied to handle the field research portion of this study including but not limited to site visits, interviews, and the follow-up questionnaire. The findings of this project were discussed and evaluated regarding the significance of them and the recommendations for future study. The case studies affirmed the significance of each of the three hypotheses."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130365800218624,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:30:27.199Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:20:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:14:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9643e761-4157-4055-b464-6f505b03cfea","accessControl_ssim":["e77193d2-1036-40ae-a20b-1982944e7f81"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Andragogy and the Most Effective Means of Forming Permanent Deacons in the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in the Twenty-First Century in the United States"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:20:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:31:44Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["831ed496-3d75-4225-82ea-1c6068b937c3"],"hasLease_ssim":["9e2893ff-a1f0-4850-8662-dc59ef143a67"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"advisor_tesim":["Edward Foley Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2019"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The first intention is the creation of the nuptial hermeneutic for preaching. The second intention is to offer the nuptial hermeneutic to a group of priests in their second five years of ministry and evaluate it as a source of renewal.Chapter 1 explores the spousal relationship between husband and wife. Rooted in the nuptial vision of Pope St. John Paul II, it explores anthropology, asymmetrical reciprocity, marital love, the conjugal bond and good of the spouses, fruitfulness and responsible parenthood, and marital spirituality.Chapter 2 examines the spousal relationship between the priest and the Church. It provides an overview of the ministerial priesthood, a brief biblical examination of Jesus as Bridegroom, the relationship between the royal and ministerial participations in the priesthood of Christ, charity, the sacramental character and bond, fruitfulness, and spirituality.Chapter 3 proposes preaching as an expression of spousal love. It examines nuptiality as a theological category and presents the seven characteristics of the nuptial hermeneutic for preaching. These characteristics are utilized to explore the assembly, preacher, homily, and homiletical method. The chapter concludes with a strategy for preaching using the nuptial hermeneutic.Chapter 4 documents the development of the pastoral appropriation for this project. The method of presentation, a podcast series with fourteen episodes, is different from the original one-and-one-half-day workshop project design. This chapter recounts the reasons for modification, reviews the podcast format and presentation design, and offers a preliminary evaluation of this format.Chapter 5 details results from the project. It describes the participants, presents data collection points, and offers a summary of the results of the pastoral appropriation. Along with some observations, recommendations, and possible areas of future study, this chapter concludes with a positive judgment of the nuptial hermeneutic as a source of renewal."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130090083450880,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:26:04.255Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:19:48Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:12:53Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"71262031-4c2e-48b6-b42d-dae3c19b5e6a","accessControl_ssim":["3a40b707-8104-4136-917e-1376d5dbaa45"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Gift of Self- A New Way: To what extent does perception of St. Peter Julian Eymard's practical theology contribute to the Congregation and Aggregation of the Blessed Sacrament?"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:19:47Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:26:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["16a1b943-0e05-44fb-8b0a-04651242f92c"],"hasLease_ssim":["f4c37529-20bc-4b44-96ab-85183583ddb9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Practical Theology"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"advisor_tesim":["Dawn Nothwehr, OSF Prof. Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2019"],"location_tesim":["United States","France"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. It is, therefore, chiefly a study of the practical theology of this French priest (1811- 1868), often designated by the Roman Catholic Church as the 'Apostle of the Eucharist', through the lens of the notion of gift of self as transmitted by him.The current priority given by the Eucharistic religious congregations, and lay aggregation Eymard founded to pursue investigation and study into the significance of gift of self for both him and his constituency within Church and society, gives relevance to the thesis-project at this time.Through qualitative research, this study suggests and proposes what gift of self looks like in the understanding of members of the Congregation and Aggregation of the Blessed Sacrament, in light of the experience of undertaking faith and apostolate practices. Primarily, the thesis-project attempts to envision credible future ministry, mission and apostolate initiatives built upon the centrality of self-giving in St. Peter Julian’s expressed teaching and reflecting, sourced from the corpus of his written autographs."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b51273d2-7ff5-4ecb-af24-64508c2367ad"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129263741599744,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:12:56.194Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:19:36Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:23:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b9ba1e5e-09ee-449e-ab81-674cec57bd25","accessControl_ssim":["a826ef06-6e3d-437f-9b96-d2a5ea34eca6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Encountering God's Healing Through Holistic Spiritual Formation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:19:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:28:57Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["71578312-085f-4c79-8146-c36517531ede"],"hasLease_ssim":["d2e75723-c02a-47a3-abf9-847483500037"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Spiritual Formation"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Tyndale University"],"advisor_tesim":["Peter Schuurman Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2019"],"location_tesim":["South Africa","United States","New Zealand"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Caleb Aaron Smith"],"subject_tesim":["Health and religion","Bible--Use","Pastoral counseling","Spiritual healing","Spiritual formation","Spiritual retreats"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This portfolio begins by way of a spiritual autobiography to explore how the Lord has introduced me to different kinds of beauty, in an effort to bring about transformative beauty in my own life. These include the beauty of nature, as I grew up in New Zealand; the beauty of people that I worked or worshiped with in South Africa; but also, the unexpected beauty of pain and struggle, that I experienced in Chicago IL. In each of these places, I find the Lord forming and shaping me, but also bringing healing, for the fear and anxiety which I had experienced for much of my life. The next chapter in the format of a spiritual formation manual, then explores five dimensions of spiritual formation and healing and is geared especially for believers who similarly struggle with anxiety. Paul identifies three of these dimensions in 1 Thessalonians 5:23, where he refers to the “sanctification of body, soul and spirit.” The dimensions of community (or the social dimension) and further, nature or God’s creation are also explored. My final chapter, by way of a field research report, then places further emphasis on the dimension of nature, through a spiritual practice called Scripture and Nature Immersion (SNI). Following my research, I suggest that SNI can assist with the following: 1. redirecting participants thoughts from rumination of adverse situations to meditating on the Lord and his various divine attributes; 2. aiding participants in changing their negative emotions and moods into positive ones."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Tyndale University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["602e7e7c-0b8b-4e09-af87-84c66ff49c48"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133735923482624,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:24:01.199Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:19:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:32:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3c3f0acf-19bb-4383-8ec2-ac4a635d5acc","accessControl_ssim":["8022c72c-435f-4c93-b29c-c9dc24408e90"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Learning to Pray Without Ceasing: Instilling the Importance of Prayer and its Connection to Social Justice in Youth"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:19:34Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:52:33Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9c156108-088b-4e11-8da0-5d41164ca8ff"],"hasLease_ssim":["9b22f4ff-b0e2-41a6-a07c-99c3fc7ebb35"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Advanced Practice of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Dianne Reistroffer Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2019"],"location_tesim":["Maryland","Virginia","Tennessee","United States","North Carolina"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. These spiritual practices are essential to nurturing the strength and vision necessary to create a more just, equitable, and sustainable world. This project offers a model for integrating these practices into the regular activities of youth ministry as a way of reconnecting them to the struggle for justice. It was tested by adding the observance of the daily offices of prayer to a youth mission trip and examining the views of participants concerning prayer and its connection to justice before, during, and after the trip. Noticeable changes were measured during and after the trip, indicating that youth came to see spiritual practices are more important to the work of justice. These findings suggest that the church would do well to look to its own history of monasticism as a model for youth ministry in the post-Christian era."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7d2ba5b6-aeec-459a-aaec-e1eed75d32f0"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134272525959168,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:32:32.943Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:19:15Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:16:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ab894dd2-5d86-465a-8f5e-8bd03568f0ca","accessControl_ssim":["bd4e0c7b-4085-48e3-bc32-5a59a19622bf"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Wisdom of Silence: Contemplative Practice for Adolescents in the Context of a Catholic Secondary School Curriculum"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:19:15Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:05:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2a796daa-63f7-446b-9c07-891fedfcca65"],"hasLease_ssim":["8d1cf989-6b13-4dcd-9be9-aa450de32954"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"discipline_tesim":["Spiritual Formation"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"advisor_tesim":["Scott Alexander Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2019"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Amidst the metaphorical and literal din of increasingly covert wireless technology, the heavy demand of social media and a cultural espousal of multitasking, the adolescent spirit can be a forgotten concern. There is, therefore, a need to reclaim the wisdom of silence in the lives of adolescents, inviting them to welcome these moments for the power they offer, and to embrace the call of Teresa of Avila in “turning the eyes of the soul… to the Lord.”This project is intended to introduce and nurture contemplative practices, as presented in Christian literary spiritual classics, in the lives of adolescents in scholastic Catholic settings. Offered in response to the frequent, unregulated noise of technology manifest in phones and other platforms for social media, adolescents will benefit in a multiplicity of manners from a regular encounter with spiritually grounded silence."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b51273d2-7ff5-4ecb-af24-64508c2367ad"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129480309243904,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:16:22.729Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:19:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:48:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f7f97fa2-3b7a-405b-a5aa-c75592b962d2","accessControl_ssim":["953ed16d-e80b-4eee-9aa2-ba38acc2fba7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["News That Changes Everything:Enhancing Believers' Understanding of the GospelAt Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, Alabama"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:19:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:12:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4a76ead4-50a6-4262-b81f-13aedfa60db7"],"hasLease_ssim":["d781b12e-b56f-483b-9814-3f5b92d8d8e1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Beeson Divinity School"],"year_tesim":["2018"],"location_tesim":["United States","Alabama"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This study is a comparison of how evangelism is typically done among Baptist churches (and most Evangelical churches) with how it should be done to fulfill the Great Commission.Chapter 2 argues that both God and man have roles in evangelism, and that God’s sovereignty does not exempt man from his responsibility and accountability to God in receiving and sharing the gift of salvation.Chapter 3 examines segments of evangelism and missions from a historical perspective and records insights for contemporary ministry from a historical and theological perspective.Chapter 4 Describes the new people Group: African-American inner-city transient apartment residents. It describes their culture, world view, and their self-image.Chapter 5 conducts research in the selected environment with selected indigenous individuals to collect and analyze data to discover the most effective means to reach inner-city African-American apartment residents with the Gospel.Chapter 6 argues the conclusion, based upon the findings of the research accumulated from the two trained teams and the six selected families, that evangelism which engages in disciple-making after leading persons to Christ, is twice as effective as evangelism models that lead persons to Christ but do not include any follow-up and training. The disciple-making model is effective in this context and can be duplicated in the twenty-first century. This study does not compare evangelism without disciple making with evangelism with disciple making. This study compares what the majority of Baptist churches are doing to fulfill the Great Commission with what they should be doing to fulfill the Great Commission with particular attention given to the African-American inner-city transient apartment dwellers."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131879430160384,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:54:30.709Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":334,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
