Much of this is due to a combination of an inward focus and allowing pragmatism to supersede the biblical practice of intercessory prayer and evangelism. The purpose of this Doctor of Ministry Project was to increase the level of evangelistic participation of a select group from East Boulder Baptist Church after an extended focus on intercessory prayer. These congregations have not adjusted in order to reach their neighbors. Park Place Baptist Church is such a congregation. While the membership is open to the people of the community, the need exists for the church to prepare to reach the people. In order to understand these obstacles the researcher did a theological review of the values of Jesus' Kingdom and a literature review of the values of suburban middle-class culture. Of particular interest to the researcher is the significant amount of time and money that people invest in sports. Qualitative interviews revealed causes including a fear of confusion, fear of change or having perspectives changed. Feeling that issues sere too overwhelming was mentioned, as were busyness with work and family responsibilities. Leverage respondents' interest in spirituality to educate about social justice. use methods that don't require reading. Avoid themes of 'change' or 'personal transformation.' In preparation for this study, the project director researched the field of personal conflict resolution. Open-ended interviews were conducted with five people with diverse grief experiences from the Protestant Evangelical, specifically Baptist, faith tradition. The results of the study found that most people depended on family and close friends as their primary source of support.  Some felt supported by their church, but most felt church members were uncomfortable with discussions about their grief.
