These adult-children of alcoholics have been left with psychological and physical scars.  This project draws on research in the field of alcoholism and adult-children and on personal experience. It seeks to define who the adult-child is; the dynamic and the effects of the alcoholic and the co-dependent spouse on the child; the myths, messages, rules and roles within the alcohlic family.  The latter part of the work presents the church as family.  It profiles the alcoholic priest who is an adult-child, the church's response to alcoholic clergy, the role of church authority and denial. This project suggests a suitable role and a proven model the minister can use to promote a parish program of chemical health.  Acting as a catalyst, using the redemptive principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, the object is to enlist the enthusiasm of parishioners to create a fellowship where learning, sharing and growth can occur.  The unique feature is that three diagnostic instruments are provided to identify chemical dependency.
