Why?  In this project, particular attention is paid to the manner in which post-Enlightenment modernity has undercut the vitality of the mainline church especially with reference to the authority of scripture.  Modernity, with its emphasis on the rational, has forced scripture to be read through a naturalistic framework depriving the story of any supernatural elements. Each chapter can be used by itself or in concert with others to help church leaders cope with conflict in congregations.  The author's own experience and the research of many individuals are synthesized to demonstrate that conflict, even severe conflict, can be managed to some degree.  Doors of reconciliation can be opened by the grace of God.
