I used the phenomenological research method to document the living experience of ten members, proving that not every declining church is destined to die. Included are a reflection on system theory, theological and psychological reflections and biblical analysis that challenges traditional beliefs about marriage and divorce. Questionnaires were used successfully to elicit the marital experiences of people in the writer's pastoral charge. Narrative and cognitive behavior therapies are set forth as approaches that can help to heal the wounded in congregations. The project, an intensive, 11-day small group experience conducted over nine months, was self-directed. Written case studies, coaching, videotaping, and peer and supervisor feedback were utilized.
