Research in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church indicates that a sense of belonging is related to the age of the member.  While 90 percent of those above age 65 claimed a strong loyalty and attachment to the church, only 65 percent of those below age 45 expressed a sense of belonging. Several New Testament examples were explored in an effort to determine the church's responsibility on behalf of the missing members.  The descriptive method was used in the study.  It was based upon 176 responses to a questionnaire and personal interviews with people who have dropped out of the church.  The responses were evaluated by the Research and Statistics Department of Andrews University. The study was based on 250 interviews with persons who have become disassociated with the church and with those who are active church leaders and lay persons.  The interviews revealed that the major factor for both apostasy and inactive membership was problems concerning marriage and divorce.  A second factor was lack of support in times of crisis.  Other causes were movement between cities and decline in spiritual life.  The conclusion highlights several causes of apostasy. Traditionally, Seventh-day Adventists have believed that children of Adventist parents are the 'younger members of God's family'. However, officially their children are excluded from church membership.  The project investigates the biblical and theological bases for the status of children in the church through an exegesis of key scriptural passages.  Both in the Old Testament and the New Testament, the believer's children clearly are incorporated into God's family.
