The content addressed issues of administration/management, leadership, and relationship using four dimensions: retreat, mentor, small group, and supervision. The participants were the 2000 class of probationary members of the Florida Conference UMC. The results indicate the need for training in administrative and relationship skills. The subjects were the pastors of churches that were visited and where conferences were attended as part of the 2001-2002 Beeson Pastor Program of Asbury Theological Seminary. The findings of this research suggest that mentoring makes an important contribution to the development of pastors. Training usually takes the form of learning from life's experiences or from books and seminars. The purpose of this research was to study the impact of a practical training program with a theoretical, biblical base upon the confidence level of youth pastors.  The three-day seminar was designed to facilitate deeper discussion on key biblical passages that reflect the paradoxical life of Jesus and how he trained his disciples.  These were Luke 24:13-25; John 5:2-9; Mark 7:24-30; and John 8:1-11.  The seminar also gave participants four basic tools to use in counseling: symptom prescription, reframing, scaling questions, and the miracle question. This research was an evaluative study in the quasi-experimental mode utilizing a pre- and posttest design and comparing a control and experimental group.  The main testing tool gave answers from a variety of collecting tools such as multiple-choice, scaling questions and open-ended questions.  The latter were evaluated by thematic analysis finding categories and themes evident in the youth pastors' responses. With the help of an expert panel, the current landscape of leadership training programs for evangelical ministers in North America was described.  Four best-practice models were selected and examined in detail for compliance with the optimum components, employing the qualitative research methodology of interviews with leaders and participants.  The study provided suggestions that can optimize transformation of leaders in training. All mentors were pastors of local churches of the Church of God.  All mentoree participants attend local churches of the Church of God.  The program included thirteen lectures, continuous laboratory experiences, and a weekly or biweekly report from mentors and mentorees.  This research is an evaluative study utilizing pre and posttest questionnaires, as well as essays.  These were designed to emphasize qualities that relate specifically to leadership needs of the Church of God.  During the nine months between the pretest and the posttest significant positive changes were observed that can be attributed to the program's impact on both mentors and mentorees. The mentors' leadership is evidently the most influential factor on mentorees.  The intervening variables of gender, age, race, and ministries did not adequately account for the observed changes.  A positive relationship exists between intentional leadership training and succession of leadership.  The findings of this study suggest that intentional leadership training is strengthened by a mentoring program designed for successor leaders.  Indirect evidence suggests that the duration of such a program be at least six months. Data was gathered using semi-structured interviews conducted with interns and supervisors.  Interviews were reviewed for common themes and any correspondence between data gathered and classic homiletic training and New Testament preaching.
